“Great customer focus, good food & wide range of drinks”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2012

We stumbled into the Captain Nelson tavern by chance at the end of a windswept walk down the coast from Allonby to Maryport. The welcome was immediately warm and friendly from the family run owners. The pub has been refurbished with wooden floors, stove fire & colourful juke box. Impressive range of whiskeys, a couple of tasty real beers & some interesting spirits, e.g. Crystal Skull vodka. Mostly home made pub food, in good sized portions, including tasty fish & chips, vegetable lasagne, pan fried salmon fillet, jacket potatoes, thai fish cakes, crispy grilled black pudding, local cumberland sausage etc. The pub has an open spacious feel to it - but the most appealing feature is the owners who clearly relish in fulfilling their customer's needs. It's just across from the Wave centre & near the Aquarium. If you fancy a refreshing walk you can stroll along the promenade towards the golf course and back. Highly recommended !

“FANTASTIC FOOD AND SERVICE”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2012

Just got back from a meal out with our friends who were visiting from out of the area. We were a party of 9 including 3 young children. It was our first visit to the Captain Nelson Tavern but it most certainly will not be our last.
We rang up just before 6pm to ask whether they served food in the evening and whether the children were ok to come along with us. They started serving food at 6pm and we arrived there shortly after that time.
We ordered and a couple of our party wanted very slight variations to the menu, which was no problem at all to the waiter, Our meals all arrived at the same time which was great. It was all fresh home cooked food and tasted sumptuous, The proper 'home cooked; chips were to die for, they were so yummy. Each one of us said we were so full and how much we had enjoyed our meal.
Our grandson had the children's roast dinner and loved his giant tall home made Yorkshire pudding! Our granddaughter really enjoyed her home baked ham. The men had the Cumberland Sausage and all commented on how nice it was.
The waiter was very attentive but not overbearing. He made sure we had sufficient sauces and gravy throughout the meal, nothing was too much trouble for him, We were made to feel very welcome and I would definitely recommend this establishment to anyone visiting or living in the area..The food and the atmosphere were both excellent and exceeded our expectations.
Looking forward to visiting again soon.

“Fantastic Home Cooked Roasts”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2012

Popped in for a fantstic home cooked Sunday roast. Portions were big, quality was very good, beer was well kept, and proces were very reasonable. The two of us went to a number of other pubs / restaurants in the area, but this was by far our favourite in Maryport.

“High class food.. Home cooked”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 11, 2012

Located near the harbour in Maryport just over the bridge, This small family run pub serves wonderful food, There is a slight wait for your meal thats becouse its cooked to order, so well worth the wait, we have eaten in there several times, and today the menu was changed to include more fish, you really must try the sherried sardines with advocado ( i hate advocado but the combination was lovely ), and the sea bass, they do a roast dinner everyday, which is plentiful, and all reasonably priced with lovely staff.

“Fantastic home cooked food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 18, 2012

Captain Nelson tavern is a fantastic place to have a bite to eat or a drink when visiting Maryport.
The staff are very friendly and put you at ease as soon as you enter the building.

The property itself is very modern with a decadent pub feel with a nice homely vibe to it. We had the fish and chips choice off the menu and myself and my partner both agreed that it was the best fish and chips we had in years. The fish wasn't the only thing that was piping hot and tasty. Our meals were presented to us by a rather stunning West Cumbrian man. Which always helps while you check out the local amenities.

So overall i would recommend this place, lovely atmosphere and food at very affordable prices
