“More than home from home!”
Reviewed October 26, 2016 for a stay in October 2016

Not sure I have ever stayed in such a well equipped lakeland cottage. It has a very comfortable lounge with a fire if you wanted it and TV with good reception, a kitched with everything you could possibly need, WiFi which worked very well for us and a lovely conservatory to eat in. The upstairs bathroom was spacious, spotless and the shower work well. For walkers during a damp week, the drying room is very useful. The valley has virtually no mobile reception so the payphone is a handy addition. We did not use the sauna but it looked very nice. All in all, this place is oustanding value. Thanks Christine.

Hello Mike and thank you for your review. Glad you enjoyed your stay at Grisedale Cottage. You will have to use the sauna next time!
.
You also seemed to enjoy the choice of walks from the door and a bit of biking. The cottage is well located for both.

Hope to see you again.

“better and better”

Our annual trip north is usually in November, but we were a month earlier this year, hoping to catch some of the more spectacular Lakes displays of autumn foliage. We might have missed that, but we did discover Holehird Gardens near Windermere, which I'd recommend; and tackled Skiddaw -- which I wouldn't; oh, and fluorescent anti-rustle sheep at Troutbeck
Ther cottage held no surprises (it's always beautifully presented and sumptuously comfortable) other than that it has been overhauled with new furniture and more than the odd lick of paint.
If you are considering renting Grisedale Cottage, then consider no more: just get on and do it, before someone else snaffles the week you wanted. And take some pound coins for the sauna.

What a great place to stay. Cottage is lovely very clean and a really relaxing ambience. Wish I could stay here more often. A credit to Christine and John who really do go that extra mile to make your stay special. If you fancy walking it's a special place with easy access to the fells or just want to relax its well worth a visit.

Well back in the lakes and stopping over the way from our trip last year
As always the Lakes delivers what you expect, peace tranquility great walks and fantastic views.
This cottage is just as good as the sister cottage over the way "lower grisedale lodge" and witb Christine and John at the helm it is easy to see why this is so
Everything you could possibly need is provided for and then on top of that you get those extra little touches to make it like home
Greeted as we arrived and unloaded to ensure we were able to operate all items, a lovely warm fire awaiting along with biscuits to welcome us
Cottage layout warm cosy and spacious even though there were just two of us.
Would not only recommend this cottage and area to anyone who wishes to visits the lakes would insist they try it
Perfect for stress free relaxation from start to finish

“Welcoming comfortable stay”

I'm so glad we had the chance to stay here. We loved our week in this fully equipped cottage for 5, especially during a wet week in the Lakes. Chris looked after our every need with grace, kindness and good humour. It's the kind of summer let you dream of and long to come back to.

“The perfect spot in Patterdale”
Reviewed September 2, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We've been coming to Patterdale/Glenridding for decades but this was our first stay at the truly delightful Grisedale Cottage - and we're anticipating it not being our only stay!! A really charming cottage, set well back off the main road, which easily accommodates 5 adults (we had 2 grown up children with us for the duration and our eldest joined us for a long weekend). An excellent welcome awaits when you open the front door - a very useful and helpful personalised information sheet, milk in the fridge and a plate of biscuits starts the holiday off well.

There's a very homely feel to the lounge and the 3 bedrooms are excellently and tastefully fitted out. A beautiful conservatory dining room also serves as an ideal place to catch up on some reading and enjoying some bird watching. The sauna was an unexpected bonus to help relax after a day of walking. The kitchen had everything you could ask for. The main bathroom upstairs, again, was excellently fitted out and had an excellent drying cabinet in a room off the bathroom itself (and also an ideal storage space for the suitcases!).

This beautiful cottage serves as an ideal base just off the shores of the most beautiful lake in the Lake District. There are local stores within easy walking distance, either in Patterdale or Glenridding and an excellent shopping centre in Penrith.

We can't recommend Grisedale Cottage highly enough - many thanks Christine and John for your very warm welcome and care. :-) xx

I can offer no better recommendation to the properties owned and run by Christine and John than he fact that my partner Christine and I have returned every year without fail for nearly two decades. Grisedale cottage has become our favourite for many good reasons.
The welcome is without fail warm: there is always a local weather printout waiting for us so that we kno what to expect; milk inthe fridge and some biscuits to go with a cuppa following a long drive.
We are now well into a routine on the first day of our stay: leave home in plenty of time to call in at Booths supermarket in Windermere to stock up for the week; get lunch at the Queen's Head at Troutbeck on the way up Kirkstone Pass; check in to the cottage; and leave time for a walk, maybe up Grisedale, just a few yards from the cottage. It's a hugely anticipated routine that never fails to put us immediately into 'Grisedale Mode'.
Grisedale Copttage is superbly equipped for a week's walking and exploring. If you prefer low-level, easy rambles, just step out along the valley floor to Brotherswater, around the lake and return; or take the new route from Glenridding up to Aira Force (you can now catch one of the lake launches now apparently!, and walk back). Highe-level walks are available in spades too. We catch the bus locally up to Pooley Bridge at the head of the lake and wal back down the far side of Ullswater -- a tremendous day out, and taking in one of Wainwright's favourite routes.
You might just like to spend time at the cottage. For supplies, Patterdale's village shop is excellent for papers and basic supplies -- good bread! go early! -- and the Cumbrian Food Hall on the way into Penrith has some nice local foods -- there's another branch of Booths in Penrith, thank the good lord -- excellent for wine and beers! and fish. and meat. and cheese. and many other things too.
THe lovely conservatory at Grisedale Cottage i a lovely place to spend a damp afternoon, watching the birds (take some bird seed for the feeders!)or take a sauna and relax completely. How many holiday cottages have a sauna?
Walkers note: apart from the sauna there is also an extremely useful drying cabinet off the bathroom which can save a lot of grief after a day of Lakes weather, and the solid-fuel fire in the living room is a wonderful thing to sit in front of while dinner's in the oven.
If you're visiting in the depths of winter, stock up well before you arrive. I'd rather be sitting in the conservatory with a glass of Scotch and the heating turned up, than trying to get over Kirkstone Pass without four-wheel drive
Whatever you want from a Lakes break there can't be a nicer place to enjoy it than at Grisedale Cottage. And if you prefer to have all the work done for you, Christine runs a lovely B&B at Grisedale Lodge (Lower Grisedale Lodge is also available to lease, and a very cosy stay it provides too; it's our second favourite of the Kenyon/Varley estate portfolio; search too for Stybarrow Cottage in Glenridding -- brilliantly placed for an assault on Helvellyn inter alia.

Enjoy your stay!
