The site has 12 well designed and cared for 2 bedroom cabins. We stayed just after Easter 2014. The owners are doing some site improvements but this was not a problem. The cabins are very well equipped for self catering, perhaps the owners might give an inventory on the website? We took extra kitchen equipment which we really didn't need. The lady manager, Michelle, arrived on site during our stay and was very helpful. She and her Ladies do a good job, our cabin was spotless and very well prepared.
Our teenage Grandchildren very much enjoyed roaming from the site. Something quite safe to do.
It is possible to walk to Patterdale in about 30 to 40 mins, mostly on unpaved tracks with no motor traffic. Also well placed to tackle our old friend Helvellyn, a bit of which can be seen from the site (I think!)
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and felt we had had excellent value for money. Happy to return again.

We have been going to Hartsop Fold for 21 years. It is our yearly exodus from London and our children now 20 and 17 have grown up with the walks from the Chalets and our yearly sojourn up Helvelyn. The chalets provide all the comfort you need after a hard days walking. We would recommend these chalets to families with young, teen and older children. As our children have grown the activities we have done have changed to reflect their age and there is always loads of new discoveries and things to do locally.

We really enjoyed staying here. The cabins are basic but perfectly adequate. The location is great. You can walk straight from the cabins and there are plenty of places for kids to play. We wouldn't bother looking any further if we were going to stay in this area again. The only downside is the additional cost for electricity - just adding a couple of pounds a night would be simpler and seem less penny pinching.

The location is superb. We had a 2 year old and she enjoyed the local waterfalls and exploring the site. Bird feeders next to the chalet a nice touch. Sound of the stream gurgling at night lovely. No complaints about the beds or bathroom. We weren't lucky with the weather so as we had one of the chalets dog owners could rent and the damp did bring out doggie odours and I found the interior dark.

We stayed at Hartsop Fold this weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. The lodge was well appointed and had all we needed for self catering. The location is secluded and in a beautiful valley which had a stream running next to the lodge - there was also a waterfall nearby which was stunning.

We'll definitely be making a return visit soon.

We have stayed at these lodges many times over the last 10 years or so. The lodges have everything you need and are very well thought out. We have stayed with family and also just the 2 of us along with our dog.

Michelle the site manager is extremely helpful and friendly and is always available on the phone if you have any problems and responds extremely quickly. The rest of the staff are also friendly and in fact our dog always goes to greet them for a quick stroke and fuss.

The location of the cabins is fantastic and the views are amazing. It is always peaceful and quiet, and you can often see badgers, squirrels and deer. The best cabins for the badgers are numbers 4 - 7.

There are only 12 cabins on the site along with a little reception hut and a laundry room. If you want a meal then you can walk to nearby Brotherswater Inn (which is about 1 mile away), you leave the site and walk back down the track into hartsop, you then walk on the footpath at the side of the road (keeping the road on your right hand side) for a short distance, before crossing the road and going down to the lake. The footpath then follows the lake and takes you directly to brotherswater inn. Both children and dogs are welcome in the inn and the meals are reasonable. But the kitchen has everything you need for you to cater for yourself.

We have already booked to return in 2014. Although I do know that the site has been sold, so I am hoping that there are not too many changes. I will post details of any changes on my return.

Room Tip: Cabin 12 is secluded. Cabins 4-7 are best for seeing the badgers. Cabins 1, 2, 10 & 11 are best...

We spent 4 nights at Hartsop Fold with our 13 month old daughter. Lodges are of a high standard and spotlessly clean. Location is fantastic- so peaceful, with fantastic views. Lovely walks straight from the site. Will definately be making a return visit.

Room Tip: Choose Lodges 10, 11 or 12 for the best views.
