“Relaxing break”
Reviewed November 16, 2012

My husband & I stayed here from Tuesday to Friday & had an great stay. We also managed to get a deal on the internet. We had a lovely superior front of hotel room on 2nd floor. Room 230. We received a warm welcome & were made to feel special, nothing too much trouble.
The meals were excellent to say the least. We were certainly spoiled for choice. I'm really fussy when it comes to food, and it also has to be piping hot. Well I didn't have any worries here as everything was cooked to perfection & hot.!. As it is the start of the festive season in many hotels they had a full Christmas dinner if you so wished. The Bar was well attended with prompt service. On Thursday night we were entertained by a singer who sang & played a wide variety of music to suit everyone, a great night. We had a surprise visit from "Santa" who popped in to deliver a present for everyone there. Certainly a nice touch which was much appreciated. The Patterdale is ideally situated to visit other parts of the Lake District also. We will definately be making a return visit.

This is probably our tenth (at least) visit to the Patterdale Hotel. We have never been disappointed. The Manager, Jonathan, and his staff (many of them still there since our very first visit, some 8 years ago!) are welcoming and ensure we feel at home. This is a comfortable atmosphere hotel with plenty of good local walking. The food has always been excellent, with a good choice on the menu. Our recent visit, early November 2012, proved to be even better. The food was first class, nicely presented and plenty of it. Our room was comfortable, clean and warm. Would not hesitate to recommend this venue, as we already have, to a number of our friends. They too, still come regularly.

stayed 2 nights in the patterdale hotel and from the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome even though we got a special deal on the internet which was half the normal rate, the bedroom was spacious and spotless ,breakfast and evening meals were excellent and the staff were cheerfull and helpfull.they had a singer on in the bar on thursday night which made the evening enjoyable, plenty of walks from behind the hotel and from the village, overall we cant find any faults with the hotel and would visit again

Room Tip: we stayed in 217 and was right next to the stairs door so we heard all the early risers going for br...

Previously stayed at sister Hotel in Blackpool the Clairmont - this hotel not a patch on it sadly..... absolutely nothing around it, paid extra for the lake view with no lake in site,,,room basic - no radiator in bathroom - ,had to listen to next rooms conversations and woken in the middle of the night by the soumds of next doors ablutions and chain flushings....very noisy till early hours with people banging doors - not a good experience and v dissapointed. Dinner rushed and everything swept away as soon as the cutlery had been placed on plates...get what you pay for at end of day, wont be going back.
Ullswater itself a very beautiful lake so worth a visit - just dont stay here!

Stayed here for 2 nights dinner, bed & breakfast in superior room for only £176 for 2 of us!!
Excellent value the food was excellent, staff friendly & hotel spotless. We stayed with another couple & it was just for a short break away. The day we arrived we had half a day in Ambleside & booked in about 2pm. We had already eaten but found we could have had a bar snack in the bar.
Evening meal wads table d'hote with choice of 4 - 5 choices of starters, main & sweets - excellent. The following day walked to Glenridding & caught steamer to Pooley Bridge. After another great meal there was a quiz in the bar. This hotel is mainly for walkers as it is out of the way but we really enjoyed our stay.

I have been visiting the Patterdale Hotel for many years and have just returned from my 4th visit this year! Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and the food is excellent. Lovely setting and a good number of walks available from the hotel so no need to move your car.

This hotel clearly ticks all the boxes for quite a few guests and there appear to be many repeat visitors. We stayed for two nights dinner bed and breakfast and found it excellent value for money. The hotel is in a great location with walks for all abilities in the vicinity. The staff are friendly and hard working so the service is excellent. The food as well, while not exceptional, is of a perfectly acceptable standard. We did find that although the furnishings in our room had been updated, the bathroom had not. It looked as though it needed it although it was functional enough. Also, the chairs and settees in the coffee lounge were getting a bit past it and in need of renewal. Finally, surely the end of October is far too early to have the Christmas decorations up.
