We stayed here on day 3 of our C2C trip - it was an absolute delight. The welcome from Paul and Nic (and Bella, who incidentally is a real cutie!) was both friendly and warm. Nic was delightfully friendly and very easy to chat to . The divine cake which we received and ate in the lovely sitting room was a really lovely touch (and absolutely delicious).
We stayed in the smaller room with the bathroom downstairs and loved it. The rooms are done to an extremely high standard - it was interesting to look at the photo album with pictures of the transformation from derelict building to gorgeous B&B!
The breakfast was gorgeous and really set us up for the day's walk to Shap.
Braesteads is set in the most gorgeous scenery and is everything you could wish for in a homely but stylish B&B.
We loved it!

Nic and Paul are brilliant hosts - slightly mischievous and providers of not only a hearty breakfast but a surprise slab of cake after the long walk. They provide a friendly and informative set of tips on the surrounding area and unexpected events like accidentaly finding Paul shearing a sheep (which wasn't very happy about the situation). Don't come here seeking linen and silver and a trouser press. Do come if you are looking for a genuine lakes experience. It is wonderful if you love the lakes, love a good cup of tea, understand that this is a working fell farm and home and enjoy meeting its hosts. The big room was lovely with amazing sheep and cow noises at dusk. The bathroom was a walker's dream..massive shower and gorgeous bath. From the farm, you can't see roads or houses but you have the most stunning view. A gem. Just let's keep it our little secret...

Just spent a weekend celebrating my husband's 50th and couldn't have picked a better place. It's off the beaten track, peaceful, friendly and the views from the Dollywagon room are to die for. Paul and Nic were really friendly and helpful (and little Bella was a delight) The bathroom was excellent, the breakfast too. Definitely highly recommended!

We stayed here for 3 nights over the Easter weekend 2010 having booked it on the website without knowing too much about the place. It turned out to be one of those really lucky bookings. The Grisedale valley the cottage is in will truly take your breath away, it's just gorgeous, and the cottage itself is just what you need after a day on the Fells - warm cosy beds and a modern bathroom with strong hot showers in a lovely old style cottage building. The hosts Nic & Paul (and their little girl) will make you feel really welcome....and then they'll make you feel full with a proper breakfast! All in all we had a truly memorable break at Braesteads and will definitely be going back some time.

We stayed here with another couple of friends while training to climb Kilimanjaro. It is perfectly situated for Helvelyn and variety of other walks in a stunning valley situation. There are 2 double bedrooms with private facilities, a shared TV lounge with a warm and comforting log burner, ample car parking and very clean. Our hosts Nic and Paul and baby couldn't have been more charming and helpful. The breakfast was extensive and set us up for a day's hard walking. Superb!

Lovely farmhouse in the valley below Helvellyn. Anyone walking in the area must stay here - Paul and Nic know the area like the back of their hands and are more than happy to point guests in the right direction. Great place to come back to after a good day on the hills.
