Stayed here on the Friday night and Sunday night after walking to Shap and Kirksby Steven on consecutive days as part of the C2C. When we arrived on the Sunday it was like coming home. Nice spot on the edge of the village and well run by Ian, the owner who is most helpful. We had a lovely room with en suite shower and a comfortable large double bed. Great full breakfasts with loads of tea and coffee. Home cooked evening meals were very good. Pleasant reasonably priced bar so there is no need to venture out in the evenings ( not that we had any energy left )

The Old Water View, made famous for being the preferred lodging of Alfred Wainwright, is excellent. The owner, Ian, seems to know everything about the Coast to Coast walk and gave us some very helpful information.
We stayed in the Bothy, which is in the grounds at the rear of the bed and breakfast and it was lovely. We met for pre-dinner drinks in the lounge were we chatted with other guests and then had an excellent dinner.
I cannot fault this place in anyway.

Room Tip: ask to stay in the Bothy

Stayed here overnight on the Coast to Coast. We had a slightly unfortunate start, arriving at 2.15pm to find a sign on the door to say it was closed from 2-4pm! Luckily it was a beautiful sunny day so we retraced our steps to the Patterdale Hotel and sat outside there drinking tea and enjoying the sunshine. Once we got into the hotel we were made very welcome. We had a lovely double aspect room, overlooking the river and with the most comfortable bed I've slept in in a long time. The bar had a good range of reasonably priced beers and wines and was a great place to spend some time exchanging "cost-to-coast" stories with other walkers. We had a good evening meal and breakfast the next morning. Ian, the owner, gave us helpful route advice the following morning which we didn't follow only because the weather was atrocious and we wanted to get down from the tops as quickly as possible! I would definitely stay here again.

We stayed locally for our 50th Wedding Anniversary and chose the Old Water View restaurant, with our family, for a meal on the actual date. The meal was beautifully cooked and presented and the service excellent and very friendly. What more can I say?

Day 4 of our C2C found us drenched and wet through on or leg between Grasmere and Patterdale. Ian the Owner met us at the door on arrival and immediately took our wet clothes and boots and put them in the drying room fir morning. We ate and had a lovely meal and samoples some locally brewed beers one of which was Ian's invention. What Ian does not know about the C2C being a guide himself is not wort talking about. We stayed in a twin room at the top of the House which was light and airey due to the Velux windows through which you could see the fell above us. This is the room Wainwright himself used to stay in as he traversed the C2C via Patterdale. The teddy bears and after eights were a nice touch. It is popular with C2Cs and caters for all including an array of walking paraphanalia including compeed etc... very welcome and a great stay

Lovely property by a stream. Run by a single dad, Ian, doing a very good job. Ian was very helpful with the next days route - showing us maps etc. very knowledgable about the route as he is a guide. Both his young daughters have done the c2c. Nice garden for relaxing in and local beers and wines. Very good selection of medical supplies. Also does packed lunches. Room was spacious and comfortable with our own bathroom down the hall. Most have on suite. You have to have dinner at the property and it was very pleasant. Breakfast very good with plenty of choice.

We stayed at the Old Water View while walking the Coast to Coast and it is a MUST for people walking this route. The owner and his children have all walked Coast to Coast and know everything about it, great advice and lots of interesting conversation.
The hotel is really well located. Our room was comfortable and clean. The food served is simple and homely, with a choice of local beers.
