Stayed here for two nights a couple of weeks ago. We were with some friends and we were in
the Bothy, which was great. Ian was a wonderful host, excellent food, it was a very relaxed
place to stay. We have booked to come back again in September

Probably the best place to stay in Patterdale from reports from others. Good bedroom facing the front of the hotel with great views, although the bathroom was rather tired and the shaver light was broken. Very focused on the coast to coast as the owner (Ian) acts as a guide and his daughter has walked it 3 times. Small bar with limited choice of beers that are not cheap for the area. Thought that the food was rather expensive for what you got and have had better value for money, lamb rather disappointing. Breakfast was ok had to go into other room to get orange juice, condiments etc. This sounds rather harsh because it is a nice enough place to stay but not the best on the coast to coast route.

Stayed here for one night while walking the Coast to Coast. The welcome was friendly, the bar well stocked and there were toiletries etc. available to buy if they were needed which was a nice touch. Ian is very knowledgeable about the C2C which is also helpful. The B&B is well situated for walkers and the rooms are delightful. Ours (Place Fell) was well equipped and comfortable and there was plenty of hot water for a bath. The atmosphere was very relaxed and we enjoyed our stay here. We ate at Old Water View in the evening and the menu was good and varied and the portions large. My only small gripe is that breakfast is served in one sitting and with everyone being catered for at the same time it is a bit chaotic. We had to keep searching for cutlery and sauces etc. The food was good though and freshly prepared so no complaints there. Anyone intending to get over Kidsty Pike and on to Shap might have wanted an earlier start. We had packed lunches prepared for us and there was a good choice of food. On the whole we enjoyed our stay here.

We stayed for 2 nights on the C2C. We were in the Bothy which was great. Good accommodation and views. Saw deer in the stream. Ian very welcoming. We have booked to come again in February to see more of Patterdale.

Room Tip: We would recommend the Bothy

I've already written one review of this place entitled "perfect" but the place is so good it warrants me writing another. When I was last there, I was really into the amazing scenary and comfortable room etc. (the Lil Gem room being particularly amazing). This time - as well as all that - Ian has now been doing food for the last year or so - and the food is really good. Not only that - the day I was there, the whole of Patterdale suffered a power cut from 6.30pm to 4.30am - but Ian still managed to turn out amazing quality food for about 20 people, and everyone had a really good time. If you are going to the Lake District - this is the place to stay - although you need to book early because it gets heavily booked up.

Room Tip: I've only stayed in Lil Gem - but I'd choose that one again

I have a vague connection with the owner of the Old Water View as I trekked to Everest Base Camp with a friend of his a few years ago. On a recent trip to the Lakes I called in just for a drink and to see this famous establishment. I was received like an old friend although I had never met Ian before. The beer was wonderful, can't wait to go back and stay, which I will do later this year.

Thoroughly recommend!

I'd read that this was one of the best places to stay on the Coast to Coast walk, and one of Wainwright's favourites. It was a great location and is a beautiful old house. There are great facilities and touches that indicate the owners are thinking about everything to help walkers. However, the insistence that you buy supper there (the food was good, but other places in town exist) made us feel pressured, even though we weren't exactly forced. We went to the pub for a pint before supper but sensed that the owner was disappointed we hadn't had a drink in his bar at the B&B (a weird shrine to his young daughter's admittedly impressive 3 coast to coast world records).
This was the only B&B on our 16 night route that charged for a cooked breakfast. This, coupled with the feeling that so many things seemed to be labelled with a price, whether for charity or for business, made us feel less than relaxed.
Whether you like this place or not will be very personal.
