Over the years the Bardsley family have really brought this hotel up to date. It now sports a swimming pool and spa, with new and fully re-furbed rooms and good dining, with a menu common to both the in house gastro pub and restaurant. On a sunny day a drink and/or meal by their river frontage is lovely. The view as you approach over the ancient bridge is always uplifting. The staff are friendly and Mr Robinson in the dining operation is excellent and seems evergreen. Whilst some might say that this is too south in the Lakes for some, we have never found getting around to be a problem, although avoiding peak school holiday traffic probably helps.

Room Tip: We would always go for a river view. The new build rooms have all mod cons, but the handful of (smaller) rooms in the old part have more charm in our opinion. You do have cars going along the front to the hotel car park (but not many and at low speed) and any hub bub from riverside drinkers and diners soon quietens as it darkens.

I was a guest at a wedding.
From the start to the end, everything was perfect.
The location, staff, event coordinator, wedding coordinator, rooms and venue - all outstanding.
The wedding breakfast was superb - restaurant quality food.

Room Tip: we had a ground floor room overlooking the garden which was very good

Been here for food many times over the years and always wanted to stay which we did last weekend for two nights, it was fantastic we had a junior suite with a river view we couldn't fault the hotel or food everything was first rate we would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Its a very old building with a very modern twist the staff are great and nothing is too much trouble, we will be back again!

Hotel beautiful, lots of space in which to sit chat and drink. Food in the restaurant excellent, service very good. If only the weather had been better the weekend would have been perfect.
Would recommend to others and visit again.
