“Excellent service , stunning location”
Reviewed September 25, 2010

Booked a last minute trip to the Lakeside and got a very good deal on a standard room .We were delighted with our stay, the location is stunning with beautiful views of Lake Windermere.
Our room overlooked the inner courtyard but was very comfortable and clean , the bed was very comfortable .
We ate in the brasserie once and yes it was pricey but the food was wonderfull with excellent service , we also ate at the Swan which was also a very enjoyable meal . We walked there , it took 20 minutes and came back in a taxi after dark at a cost of £3.The breakfasts were very good also.
The staff were extremely pleasant and the level of service was exellent , we were made to feel very special , nothing was too much trouble .
We used the spa and gym and the facilities were very good , I had a treatment which was so relaxing .
All in all a lovely relaxing break at a quality hotel (and we even got great weather) , we will definately return to this lovely place.

Stayed at the lakeside for a much needed break from our three kids with some friends for a birthday celebration.
was looking forward to a very rare good night sleep which was completely ruined by the lift which was right next to our room (301). the lift was going till 1 oclock in the morning and then woke us up at 6.30 the same morning.
When we mentioned it to reception on checking out they just said they were sorry.
Apart from that, its a very good hotel, very freindly staff and excellent food (at a price)
Unfortunately not one of our best weekends away due to lack of sleep.

My husband and I stayed at The Lakeside for our 2nd Anniversary.
The enterance to the hotel is grande with lovely views of the lake.
We were shown around the hotel by a member of staff and taken to our room, Our bags followed shortly after.
Our room looked onto a slate wall, was quite dated, Floral bed spreads, Wallpaper a little tatty but apart from that was clean and comfortable.
After only being there an hour or so we discovered our room was really warm and had no air conditioning or Fans which was really disappointing.

We found the menu was quite limited and pricey so we ate at The Swan Inn which was a short drive away approx 5 mins, Food in there resterant and bar area was lovely and would highly recomend it.

Breakfast was lovely, Buffet style followed by a choice of 6 or 7 different cooked breakfasts, Staff were very polite and helpful.
The main feature i liked i with this hotel was the spa and pool area, Very clean and a good size my husband and i used it on a couple of occassions.

I probably wouldnt visit this hotel again as i feel it wasnt great value for money, I have stayed in much nicer hotels.

In a previous review, the writer asked for the views of other Lakeside Hotel visitors regarding the new menu in the Lakeview Restaurant.

The Lakeside is our favourite hotel. We visited again recently and tried the new menu for the first time on a Friday evening. We had to choose three main course fine dining dishes from a choice of about ten and were then presented wtih three dishes, one after the other, of our choices (much like a taster menu). All the dishes were delicious and, followed by dessert and coffee, together with a couple of surprise courses, we felt that the menu was good value for fine dining at £49.

On the Wednesday and Thursday evenings, the two days of the week when the Brasserie Restaurant is closed, we dined in the Lakeview Restaurant but were given a different menu which combined dishes from the fine dining and the brasserie menus. This, too, was excellent with three courses and coffee for £39 and had meat dishes such as lamb, chicken and pork on the menu. I realise that everyone has their own opinion, so perhaps this menu would better suit the writer.

I understand that there are also bar meals served in Ruskins bar in the evening, but we have not trried these.

The Lakeside has until recently been my wife's favourite hotel, however on our stay at the end of July we were disappointed with our meal in the main restaurant. Their new idea of choosing 3 courses out of available 10 meals for £49 per head, none being meat outside of venison or duck is not, in my opinion, good value.
Yesterday, 28th August we had planned to stay, but the room offered at a reduced price of £150 had a view of a slate wall, and the main restaurant menu was the same as in July. With a few dinner drinks and adding a supplement of £10 per head for chateau briand, our bill for an overnight stay would have been in excess of £300, for a meal with limited choice and no Lake view. The hotel also offers a also a more casual restaurant, but the attraction of the Lakeside is having a lake view.
The hotel staff assure me that most visitors approve of this limited 3 out of 10 menu, what do other visitors think, as other opinions may encourage the management to re-establish an a la carte menu?

On arrival we were greeted by friendly staff. Then we were taken to our room by the receptionist and it was very nice. Then we went down to the pool and that was very clean and quite big but the jacuzzi wasn't working correctly and the sauna wasn't that hot enough. The location was very good and is in a good position for boat trips and steam train rides. Also on the hotel site there is an aqaurium. Overall the hotel is exceptional

We booked this hotel from lastminute.com as a top secret hotel. It was advertised as a 5 star hotel but once we booked it, the Lakeside hotel website stated it was a 4 star hotel. This was a dissapointment as it was our first hotel stay with our 8 month old baby and it was essential we stayed in a clean hotel. We had booked a double room and on arrival we were given room 13, I didn't think hotels had room 13s and wasn't happy to stay in it. The room was dull, dark, had a dirty carpet and in desperate need of a make over. We did get moved to room 31 without any fuss, which was a lot better but still not as clean as it could be. The carpet was a lot cleaner than the previous room's however the room did have cobwebs in the corners, grime around the bath, hair left in the plughole from a previous guest and stains on the bed spread and curtains. The room was lacking in the fine details of cleanliness. I have to say I can't fault the service at the hotel, we asked for a fridge, iron, fan and washing up liquid (for baby's bottles) and they were delivered within 10 minutes but the cleanliness of the rooms was a huge let down. The breakfast was ok and we dined in Ruskin's bar one evening which was very overpriced. I can completely understand why this hotel isn't 5 star, which is a shame because the location is perfect. I wouldn't stay here again!
