“Special anniversary treat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2013

Just returned from a fantastic break to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. The staff at this hotel make your experience unbelievable with their excellent customer service skills. The rooms, food and ambiance of the hotel are outstanding. Yes it is a bit on the expensive side but you only get what you pay for and it is well worth it. We can't wait to go back.
Thanks to everyone at the hotel.

We stayed here for 5 days (2 adults and 2 boys aged 8 and 11). The hotel is an elegant English country hotel in a superb location on the southern tip of Lake Windermere. The staff were, without fail, courteous, polite and helpful without being intrusive. The breakfast was delicious and the service was excellent. The bedroom was very comfortable with a separate room for the children and a clean bathroom. The lounge and conservatory are very relaxing and views are superb. All in all we had very relaxing stay and the hotel and its staff exceeded our expectations.
We did not dine at the hotel as we traveled around the lake district and ate out elsewhere so cannot comment on the restaurant.

For children, the steam railway, aquarium and motor museum were located near the hotel.

Room Tip: We had the family room number 35. There is no view (I don't think any family rooms do) but the...

Our annual conference for 90 delegates was an amazing success thanks to the Lakeside Hotel. Every aspect of the hotel exceeded our franchisees expectations. The facilities, bedrooms, cleanliness, food, floral arrangements, service and the friendliness of the staff are second to none. Look nowhere else.

Room Tip: 56, but all are extremely well appointed.

This was my second visit to the Hotel, my first over a year gao was indifferent and as my wife has stayed on numerous occcassions with work for conferences, we thought to give it another go.

We traeted ourselves to a suite it was worth the extra expense for the space and two bathrooms plus the magnioficent lake views. This Hotel is a great place to stay if you do not want teh tackiness of what is now Bowness but with Lake and ferry access.

Great public rooms and a really cosy bar, plus a superb pool area - in short a good place to relax.

Room Tip: It is worth paying the extra for a lake view

Stayed here with a friend for a relaxing one night escape.

Recieved a warm, friendly welcome from the reception staff and taken to the conservatory as our room wasn't ready. We ordered a bottle of white wine, waited for 10 minutes for it to be bought only to find it was warm. Asked for another, waited another 10 minutes to be re presented with the same bottle and told it was now cold as it had been in ice! Again sent it back to be presented once again 15 minutes later with the same bottle (now somewhat emptier). We eventually drank it with ice cubes in, but not what you want in a 4 star hotel when you're paying £30 for the bottle.Lunch of sandwhiches was fine, uninspiring but fresh and tasty.

The room was comfortable, we had a garden view which was a bit disappointing for the price we paid but although small the decor was fresh, the bed comfortable and bathroom nice. The spa was lovely, we both enjoyed a treatment and a relax by the pool which was quiet.

We ate dinner in the bistro. The menu was limited; cauliflower rissotto, shin of beef and £22 fish and chips were 3 of the options. The food was 'fine' but hardly a dining experience. The service was efficient but could have been friendlier. Breakfast on the other hand was great with the staff here being both attentive and friendly.

Overall we had a nice stay, enjoyed the beautful views, the spa, the friendliness of some of the staff and a very nice breakfast. Dinner was a bit disappointing though as was the hotel's inability to serve cold white wine and to treat us like idiots when we dared to complain.

This hotel is a lovely building, right next to the lake, has a truly excellent pool/sauna/spa area, and has a large team of very committed, friendly, helpful, and generally excellent staff. It is clean and very well-kept, if maybe a little bit stuffy in a 1930's kind of way (the staff wear black-bow-tie evening dress at night; the guide to the hotel in the bedroom notes that residents are requested not to use laptop computers in the public areas -- why not?).

But, alas, this hotel also has the most ridiculously expensive "bar food" I've ever seen. As costly as a London gastropub but frankly not as good, served in a "bar/brasserie" area desperately lacking in atmosphere. The staff did their best to put a brave face on it, but it was the first time in many years that I have been genuinely shocked at the prices on the menu, and then even more disappointed when the food was actually served; and my job means that I eat out in London an awful lot, so I am very accustomed to pricey food. But GBP28 for a steak, or GBP21 for fish&chips, in Windermere?

The next night we took the short walk down the road to the only other alternative eating place within walking distance, the big white hotel/pub on the bridge, roughly 1km due south. Here the menu costs were roughly 30%-40% less but the dishes tasted just as good, there were lots of customers, and bags of atmosphere. When we looked around the other tables, we recognised several of our fellow Lakeside Hotel residents -- if the Lakeside reduced their prices, they wouldn't find so many of their customers heading down the road to eat, and then they might find a bit more atmosphere in their bar/brasserie; simple as that.

We had seen the hotel on many visits to the Lakes and as a treat booked for wifes birthday, only staying on night as quite expensive and didnt know what standards to expect, oh what a fool, we wish we had gone the whole hog and stayed the full weekend.
From entering the hotel to leaving we were made to feel most welcome, the porter took our cases to the room, parked our car and was given a quick tour of the main areas, the pool looked great.
As soon as we unpacked in the very clean and spacious room it was down to the pool. Warm and relaxed, it was ours for over an hour, We were disapointed when others arrived!!
The meals, though expensive were well worth it, with quick and attentive staff, The blackcurrant souffle is a must, (take my word for it)
The weather was good and we sat on the lawn with a pot of coffee, at £9, thought it was over priced but we had around 6 cups out of it so really good value, A tea cozy however would not have gone amiss. A small pot would have sufficed.
The breakfast, Honestly, one of the best I have had, doesnt look a lot but I was full afterwards, full english with a choice of cerals, fruit or yoghurts either before or after, cannot fault it.
The staff were all good mannered and attentive.
Cannot fault in any way

So good we are planning on our next visit, which will be a full weekend, it will be worth it

Brilliant, just brilliant
