After our first stay at the acclaimed 4 star lakeside hotel we came home with mixed emotions.
firstly on arrival we we're greeted with a extremely warm welcome by a lovely young lady named Ruth.
after being shown to our room we accepted a booking time for our evening meal with great pleasure (4 hours travelling makes you rather hungry)... We had great expectations for our meal however they were not upheld.. the portions are rather on the small size and we did not know that we had to order vegetables and potatoes separately. The flavours couldn't be faulted and the service was outstanding. We unfortunately left only half full after 3 courses.

We retired to an early night after a long day, hoping for a good fill at breakfast.
the breakfast was as expected and having a good feed we enjoyed a day out walking in bowness and out on the lake which is beautiful..

Thinking ahead we had some lunch before heading back to the hotel.

the evening meal was again fantastic on the eye and pallet however there was a sour taste left in our mouths after watching a un-named manager grope a waitress which she didn't look very happy with to say the least he realised that we had seen him and shuffled off (not to be seen again). The lovely waitress brushed it off professionally and didn't look phased When we asked if she was okay.

the room was lovely and clean throughout our stay but the indecent manager spoilt our overall opinion of the hotel we would return again but it is rather expensive.
Service was outstanding
food was tasty but shy on size
rooms clean and comfy
price was not too excessive Special occasions only

Just returned from a birthday break on the Lakeside’s 3 for 2 spring offer and had a wonderful weekend.

We were met at the entrance by a friendly Receptionist who checked us in and gave us a tour whilst the Porter kindly parked our car and took our luggage.

We had a ground floor lake view room which was beautiful and bright and had seating in front of the patio doors, which opened on to the garden enabling us to stroll to the lake to see the boats and ducks who waddled up to say hello. Bed was comfy and white linen spotless however, on arrival the patterned top quilt was stained with tea, mascara and bird muck so I told Reception and asked it to be replaced. They were very apologetic and it was removed but housekeeping never replaced the quilt at all so as we were chilly, I reminded Reception on the 2nd night and they advised it would be replaced, which it was with a thick yellow blanket. It did the trick for warmth but unfortunately made us sneeze so on the 3rd night we removed it and turned the heating up instead. For a 4 star hotel, I would expect them to at least have spare clean quilts to replace originals being cleaned. The bathroom was spotless and the bath nice and deep. Shower was good but at night, it took a while for hot water to come through but when it did, it was red hot and it was nice to use the lovely bathing products supplied.

Pool and sauna etc are super and on Monday we literally had the facilities to ourselves so it was quiet and relaxing. One thing we were disappointed about was when we tried to book massages there were no slots for 3 days so if treatments are so popular, the hotel should ensure guests are aware to book in advance as we were not told and there is nothing on the website either.

Food wise, cold breakfast buffet is good as there is plenty on offer and the cooked option is the best breakfast menu we’ve seen as there is a nice choice, it’s cooked fresh and the eggs benedict is to die for ! We ate breakfast in both the lovely Restaurant and the Brassiere which is bright, airy and has a more family atmosphere to it.

We didn’t eat lunch but we did have the Restaurant evening fine dining menu on my birthday and we weren’t disappointed as it’s excellent value for money. The food, wine, staff and service were amazing and to hear the pianist was very special. The other evenings we planned to eat in the Brassiere but as we found that menu overpriced, we did the 15 minute walk down to the Swan Hotel, as for example, their fish & chips is £13.00 compared to the Lakeside’s which is £21.00. Whilst in the Swan, we saw other Lakeside residents eating because they also said the Brassiere Menu was too pricey so to encourage residents to eat in more, the Lakeside need to reduce their bar menu to realistic prices.

We would definitely stay here again as the facilities and position are excellent and it’s great that you can leave your car and just hop on the boat to both Bowness and Ambleside for the day.

Room Tip: Asking for a room with a Lake or Garden View is worth paying the extra for.

Stayed two nights here in a suite, the staff are very attentive and friendly (especially Kirsty the waitress in the restaurant), the hotel is spotlessly clean. The Suite was very comfortable excellent views of the lake comfortable bed and sofa. The spa is excellent with a good swimming pool, sauna, steam room ( not a lot of steam more a pleasant mist ).There is a small jacuzzi next to the pool but annoyingly it only stays on for around 90 seconds (hardly enough time to relax in ).

What i did feel let the hotel down ( and relay annoyed me) we booked half board £299 per night for a suite yet we were charged £6.00 for six new potatoes a small amount of carrots and two small cauliflower florets with the meal ? That put to one side the service at breakfast and dinner was superb with a great atmosphere and ambience.

As a family, we have been visiting this hotel for over ten years now and look forward to returning every time. For us, it is quite simply perfect!

We have stayed in various different room types from a large family room when they children were young, interconnecting family room with bunk beds, a family suite consisting of a lounge where the children slept (in proper beds) with separate bedroom area for the adults and interconnecting suites on the ground floor (this option quite pricey but ever so lovely and now that our children are older they love this room type). Each room styled differently but all most comfortable.

We have dined many times in each restaurant, the brasserie is more informal and has a nice menu with plenty of choice and ideal for a young family; there are colouring sheets and pencils available for children if desired and they can even tailor their own pasta dish beforehand by completing their own menu sheet (nice idea). The Lakeview restaurant is our favourite though - more formal with beautifully laid tables and glassware, has perfect lighting to create a cosy atmosphere and the food is wonderful not to mention the selection of cheeses available from the cheese board and not forgetting the different types of Port to go with them! Breakfasts are wonderful affairs with a plentiful selection and a good hot menu - try the Eggs Benedict - you will not be disappointed!

The ferry terminal is close by making it perfect for a day out on a steamer to either Bowness or Ambleside (done both several times - never tire of the scenery here). There is also an aquarium situated in the adjacent car park - visited a few times when the children were younger and all enjoyed. The Hotel also provides a walking guide booklet with ideas for walks in the vicinity and further afield too - we have done a few and enjoyed all of them.

We always visit the spa/swimming pool and both are faultless. My husband and I have had several treaments from massages, facials, pedicures - all of them a treat leaving you feeling wonderfully relaxed. The therapists encountered have all been friendly too.

The staff at this hotel are always welcoming, attentive and polite and it is so nice to return each year to familiar faces who also recognise us and greet us warmly.

Room Tip: All well decorated, pleasing to the eye and comfortable

I wasn't sure what to expect at this hotel but we were very impressed. The location is lovely (on the lake), our room was spacious and the facilties were good. The pool and spa were as lovely as the photos and this meant our daughter could relax there at the end of the day. Food was of good quality. My only slight issue is that the restaurant area is too small for the number of guests so if you get there at busy times you have to eat in a side restaurant - this is acceptable but not as nice. We also felt that families with children were directed to this side restaurant and whilst I understand that it is nice to keep one area quiet, I was pretty disappointed to be sat at most meals with noisy toddlers when my 12 year-old knows how to behave in adult company and would not have disturbed other guests if we had been sat with the adults.

We spent one night here as a well-earned break from 3 small children! The reception, bar, conservatory, restaurant (downstairs) area was beautifully presented and really suited the setting, on the bank of Windermere. It was far too cold to eat outside but the tables on the patio look beautiful for a warmer day!
Our room was a little bit small for the price we were paying but we did have the lake view we requested. The room was well done out and the bathroom nice but not as impressive as downstairs and the long walk down lots of narrow corridors from reception to our room was quite tired looking. The jacuzzi in our bath didn't work but wasn't important enough to us to bother reporting.
The spa complex was very nice altho a tad busy when we went down - we sat in the (not quite hot enough for our liking!) sauna but didn't bother with a swim. The treatment area was fully booked when we arrived so if you plan on a facial / massage during your stay, would recommend booking these in advance.
The food was excellent - dinner was a set menu but plenty appealed to us both and the quality of what we ate was extremely high, v good indeed. Breakfast was also a highlight - a really tasty continental and (!) full English with delicious mushrooms and tomatoes, let alone bacon and sausage...!
Would highly recommend a visit here - lovely setting - we went for a very pleasant walk but the hotel is also right next door to an aquarium and a steam railway station. There were lots of families here too but the children were all so well behaved they didn't interrupt the fact that we were escaping ours!!!

I'll keep this brief! Great location, food and facilities. Bit of treck to some of the rooms and a bit of a maze but this is a fine hotel. Food was tasty, well prepared and well presented in main restaurant. Lunch in the large conservatory overlooking the lake was a lovely affair. The pool and spa area is excellent quality and warm enough for the young ones. A special mention for Kirsty in the restaurant who was professional and cheerful and remembered our daughter's name for the two days we were there. Not exactly cheap but highly recommended. Worth a 5 star rating any day.
