“Comfortable pet friendly hotel”

We found this hotel by a random internet selection. What a find run by the long time owners, comfortable rooms, lovely walks with red squirrels. A really good restaurant not cheap but excellent food and service. Talked to three couples all of whom are stayed several times previously. A very relaxing stay.

Having discovered it we will also join the ranks of returnees.

Room Tip: Garden room on ground floor best for dogs and red squirrels

A wonderful stay - management and staff delightful and welcoming - hotel lovely in a lovely setting - food superb - and extremely good value for very fine cuisine. We will return - especially as they welcomed our dogs!

We booked at the last minute and have to ask "why were we able to do this?" when the hotel is so good. The place is a traditional, small (only 11 bedroom) country house hotel that is what the term "country house hotel" conjures up in the mind. What makes Overwater Hall so special is the hands-on involvement of the 3 owners, one of whom is the chef. He presides over a kitchen that produces some of the best food that we have eaten in a hotel! The other two owners work "front of house" and provide an outstanding level of service, both in the restaurant and the hotel in general (with the help of a small team of staff), that should be an exemplar for most other hotels. We would prefer to give 6+ score for service but that is not an option on TA!

We had a fantastic stay at Overwater Hall and hope to return to visit them again very soon.

My husband, myself and our dog found this gem via the Daily Telegraph as being dog friendly. Angela, one of the owners, greeted us (and the dog!) personally on the steps of the hotel on arrival and showed us to our lovely, comfortable room. She directed us on a few walks and made us very welcome. The dinner for the two nights we stayed was spectacular and not at all what we had expected. We needed to run round the garden a few times before bed after ? five courses! Breakfast was equally spectacular. The location of the hotel is .. remote .. and just what we like. We were en route to Scotland and wanted a break and certainly found it. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone (with or without a dog).

Room Tip: Room three was very comfortable and Red Squirrels sat on the balcony outside!

Loverly room , really nice touches the complimentary mineral water , fresh fruit , home made short bread with plenty of teas and coffees and some great liqueur for a nite cap. Dinner is something special and needs to be experienced to appreciate the food and the great service. Breakfast was also fab. Another attraction was they welcome well behaved pooches a loverly nite had by us all. will be booking for dinner with friends definitely

Room Tip: Room 6 a loverly room with great views , 4poster bed.

We stayed for a lovely week with our dog Bobby and really enjoyed everything about our stay. Bobby was genuinely welcomed by the fantastic staff and we always felt very comfortable. We had a beautiful turret room and agree with other guests who have said that you would not know that dogs had been in the rooms. The food was great but there is a lot of it - we ate far too much so it was handy that the hotel is in such a wonderful location near to amazing Lakeland walks! We couldn't have asked for better weather to enjoy gin and tonics in the garden, morning and evening walks around the grounds and hiking in the mountains. Overwater Hall is highly recommended and we will definitely visit again.

Room Tip: The turret rooms are large and we had a lovely bathroom

We have been staying at Overwater for 20+ years in different seasons. No Michelin star but the food is easily as good as any Michelin stared restaurant we have been to. The service is always excellent and welcoming. This is good old fashioned quality in every respect that is getting harder to find these days. Our favourite country hotel.
