“A Wonderful 'Home from Home' Haven”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 26, 2008

Our dearly loved and missed Westie, Lucy, was affectionately nick-named by us ‘Lady Lucy of Overwater Hall’ because it truly was a home from home for her.

From our point of view, it is so refreshing to stay in a hotel with elegantly decorated clean and lovely rooms where our Westie dog/s, (Master) George, can stay with us. The genuine hospitality received from owners Stephen, Angela and Adrian and their staff is charming and professionally friendly.

Overwater Hall is a very special place in our hearts. We have visited many many times since about 2004 and have seen it transform into the beautiful haven that it is. It is a superb place to chill out and unwind and is wonderful to stay in such a gorgeous location.

Everything about the place is immaculate from the herb gardens to the ‘board walk’ around part of the grounds (which George loves), from the luxury bedrooms/bathrooms to the relaxing lounge/dining rooms.

We also love the fact that Overwater is passionate about the environment and locally sourcing their food, which I have to say is absolutely exquisite. The menu changes daily showcasing the talents of Adrian and his team to the very highest culinary standards, we always look forward to the food and wines. Breakfast the next morning is also a pleasure.

Overwater is one of those places where you want to keep it your ‘best kept secret’, but I can guarantee that on your first visit you will be telling all your friends about your wonderful stay there, especially the dog lovers, and you will become repeat guests like ourselves.

We have been visiting Overwater for nearly 30 years (no, we're not desperately ancient!) and have seen many changes but all have been improvements.

We would certainly recommend this hotel for its food, ambience and warm welcome.
We had never taken a dog to a hotel before and only felt confident to do so after visiting without one and seeing how welcome dogs and owners were made to feel.

Christmas was a very enjoyable time to visit - no pressure but lots of good food and company.

We have been to the Overwater Hall Hotel three times now and Angela and Stephen made us really welcome.
We also took our dog with us, they were very helpful and there was a dog lounge as well.
The food is absolutely excellent as is the service and the staff are really friendly.
The rooms are also are of a very high standard and very comfortable, I can't recommend it enough.
It's in a lovely part of the country and the walks are excellent just right for walking down the lovely food.

Wonderful hotel with friendly owners and staff. Rooms are first rate and food is very, very good. Dogs are not just allowed, but welcomed and can be in bedrooms and one of the lounges.
Extensive grounds mean that dogs can be walked without fear of traffic. Lovely quiet lounge for those who like to sit without dogs. We have always been made very welcome and have been going there for the last 3 years. We will back next year.

Without doubt this is the friendliest most relaxing hotel you will ever find; a little gem.
When you add some of the best meals you will ever eat along with comfortable rooms and luxurious baths and showers this was one to remember and return to.

We recently stayed at this hotel as a family, with a dog and would definitely return again.
The hotel and grounds are absolutely beautiful and they genuinely welcome dogs although they are not allowed in the dining room and one other room which is left "dog free".
We have stayed in a few good hotels which allow dogs but it is difficult to find a hotel as beautiful as this one which allows dogs to stay.
Excellent food and wines and great hospitality!! Cannot recommend enough.

Imagine being invited to stay at a rather grand house where you are made incredibly welcome, and nothing is too much trouble for your hosts. That is Overwater Hall. It is a beautiful house that has not suffered in any way from being made into a hotel several decades ago. It's current owners obviously love the place and that rings through every aspect of your stay.
The rooms are beautifully furnished and exceptionally comfortable - the bathroom of the one in which we stayed was stunning.
We had with us the most awkward of guests - two children aged 6 and 11, plus a retriever. Since our stay the children have been badgering us to return. Despite the place being a car journey (albeit short) from anywhere, our girls fell in love with the hotel - to be honest, I would defy anyone not to.
The food is something that two months on we are still wistful about; it would not be out of place in a celebrity chef's restaurant. Imaginative menu, beautifully cooked and presented - also there was plenty of it - nothing 'cheffy' about the portions!!
The owners and staff were excellent - friendly, efficient, proud of their hotel but never intrusive - without doubt the best we have encountered in many years.
Our comment in the visitor's book was that we felt we had found a beautiful oasis and would be back - something that will be all too true as soon as we have the time.
