“I keep on staying there”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 30, 2012

Room 5 this time great view over the front of the hotel.Usual welcome by Luke and impeccable attentive service by Stephen and Luke. Food and wine as always of the highest standard.
Could not praise the shrimp risotto starter highly enough. Most people will fall in love with the wonderful service, the great food and the Very Peaceful ambience. Some may consider it to be old fashioned, however I would call it Classic. All the bathrooms are absolutely perfect with a bath and a separate overhead shower, If you want anyrhing special you only have to ask.

Obviously some rooms are better than others in terms of size and views, that is why they are called Superior Rooms. I love the place and have been many times so you may consider this a biased opinion. I stay in many hotels, very very few are better and almost all are worse.
Treat yourselves to either Room 3 or Room 6 the Turret rooms great views and lovely large rooms

Room Tip: 3 or 6 are the best

From the moment of our arrival, when we were greeted at the door by Stephen, one of the co-owners, we knew we were going to enjoy staying in this hotel - and we were not disappointed. The room was immaculately clean, the tea tray had a cafetière with sachets of ground coffee, a range of teas and a flask of fresh milk, and the little extras such as the home-made shortbread biscuits and the damson liqueur 'nightcap' had us feeling cosseted. The enormous bathroom contained a double ended bath and separate shower stall, and a heated towel rail warmed the towelling robes provided to give us a really luxurious experience. Breakfast was delicious and was accompanied each day by the sight of red squirrels at play outside the windows. The team who work at the hotel consistently demonstrated what 'service' should be and did so at a time when three key people were away. Top marks all round and special thanks to Stephen.

Room Tip: We were in room 7 and it was perfect.

The hospitality, service, standard of accommodation and quality of food experienced over a long weekend at the Overwater was excellent. We would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a quiet, relaxing break in a beautiful part of the Lakes.

Room Tip: Can particularly recommend the two turret rooms - numbers 3 and 6.

Great hotel that our friends arranged for us to stay at following our wedding. Was surprised we were allowed to bring our dog, as we had never stayed in a hotel with our pet. Was impressed by the welcome and attitude of the staff. Room was no 3 overlooking Skiddaw and was decorated in line with a classic hotel. Dinner was fantastic, with very high quality food and unusual combinations that really work. Recommended romantic break with masses of places to walk with or without a dog.

The welcome and continued hospitality by the Overwater team was first class and the food was truly delicous; although the attention to detail at breakfast is not as good as at dinner.

We felt for the price of the hotel the room itself could benefit from an update. The bed still had a sheet and blanket rather than a duvet and the pillows were old and thin.

The dinner, bed and breakfast are sold as a package and we felt that we would rather have had an option of a choice at dinner rather than a fixed 4 course event.

Overall we enjoyed our stay but at the price of the hotel I'm afraid we won't be returning.

Thank you for your review. We are delighted that you enjoyed at least some elements of your stay, but of course disappointed that we won't see you again.
For the benefit of future guests reading this, we do offer the option of a duvet rather than sheets and blankets - please just ask!
Kind regards,
Angela

This small hotel is tucked away but still only 10 minutes from Cockermouth or Keswick by car.
A north-facing mansion, its high ceilings are intricate in detail and the whole place is very welcoming and tastefully decorated.
The staff were very friendly and couldn't be more obliging, going out of their way to provide the little extras that made all the difference to our stay.
Our turret room was excellent, the bathroom modern and the main room keeping with tradition.
The food was stunning, superbly presented and bursting with flavour.
All in all we had a fantastic stay and would highly recommend to others.

Room Tip: Turret rooms are nice.
