“Outstanding ”
Reviewed August 27, 2016 for a stay in August 2016

Stayed here from Aug 22nd to 26th and there's not a lot to say that's not already said. Well the owner Michael is very approachable and if you need anything ask him. Brilliant. Brilliant. Brilliant. We have 2 dogs and the courtyard is a life saver. We went out to tea at the King George 1V but we took our own food in a cool box and had our own breakfasts. The shop is 5 minutes up the road. The only issue for us is everything is uphill so if you go pub and have a few you are walking back uphill and it's hard work to be honest but we are not walkers. Turn left and down the hill to Ratty Eskdale train station that takes you to Ravenglass. Can't fault the coach house and it's amenities. It even has a boiler room with a tumble dryer. It's off the beaten track which is what we wanted. Quiet and peaceful beautiful place surrounded by scenery and rivers. If I could I would give this 6stars

“Outstanding in every way”
Reviewed July 17, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

The cottage was immaculate and had everything you could possibly need. It was well laid out with good quality furnishings and accessories.
The location was excellent, peaceful and relaxing, a couple of minutes walk from a shop, less than ten minutes walk to a good pub/restaurant and twenty minutes from Hardknott Roman fort and pass.
Very happy to recommend it to everyone

“Perfect place for us to stay”

The Orchards Coach House is exceptionally well appointed with everything needed for our stay. We were met by Michael and allowed to familiarize ourselves with the accommodation at our own pace discovering all aspects of the place. The place was immaculate with many condiments in the kitchen cupboard, and a packet of biscuits on the welcome tray. The bedroom and bathroom were sparklingly clean, and the Radox muscle soak a very useful addition to the bath after a long days walking! The outside yard is a welcome resting place catching late afternoon sun, and we had the use of the boiler room as a drying room for wet boots and coats. Although mobile phone coverage is not good, the Wi-fi does allow keeping in touch if necessary. Eskdale Green has a local shop selling essentials, and a pub within sensible walking distance. The Coach House is a 10 minute walk to the Ravenglass and Eskdale railway station which will transport you either further into the hills or down to the coast, with intermediate stations along the way allowing any amount of walking you might want to do. Indeed, there are many leaflets and suggestions for walks and climbs in the desk drawers! At Ravenglass itself there is a connection with the main railway line for easy access up and down the Cumbrian coast. The Coach House is a very quiet, tranquil place ideal for getting well away for the daily stresses.

“Amazing”
Reviewed May 28, 2016 for a stay in May 2016

First trip to the Lake District for us.
Arrived Friday 20th May for one week and found it straight away so follow your sat nav.
Be aware of the winding roads to get there
First impressions of the cottage was how spotlessly clean it is and smelt lovely. The owner has literally thought of everything you will need for your stay.
Comfy bed, lovely kitchen, bathroom amazing, i cannot recommend it enough to anyone
Walks outside your door and The Ratty is worth its weight in gold.
Weather was kind to us altho i had to depart a day early due to health reasons it did not put a damper on my holiday
A little advise Eskdale was a little too remote for us but thats our fault and noone elses i should have done more research to the area.
Brilliant for walkers

“A Totally Perfect Idyllic Romantic Retreat...with Walks and Hills Galore!”
Reviewed February 18, 2016 for a stay in February 2016

WOW......What an amazing place. The converted Coach House has everything you need for a romantic and peaceful getaway. I booked the Coach House as a secret surprise for my wonderful and amazing girlfriend and I can safely say she wasn't disappointed in any way.
The moment you stepped through the door you could feel the warm, thoughtful, personal touch that Edna and Michael had set up to receive us. The cosy hayloft with oak beams and Velux windows gave you the a feeling of stepping into the history of the place, brilliant!. The homely touches given made staying there even more special. Perfect.
The Coach House is set in a very peaceful and picturesque piece of our wonderful and beautiful Lake District. It has on the door step an abundance of quiet walks and climbs from novice to expert, Scafell Pike with snow capped summit was hardly ever out of view. The "Ratty" narrow gauge railway will take you up/down the valley to Ravenglass and other little towns, literally a short stroll away.

All in all I couldn't recommend more this lovely Old Coach House, to any would be explorer or seeker of peace and quiet without saying it's worth every single second of being there....... Idyllic.

A Big Thanks to the lovely Michael and Edna for making our Valentine's Weekend absolutely perfect.

See you again

Nick and Jan.

PS...Michael booked us the weather!, it worked for half the time we were there....haha.

“Just what we needed”
Reviewed November 26, 2015 for a stay in November 2015

My wife and I just got back from a stay at the Coach house with our 9 month old daughter. We arrived late due to traffic, but accessing the property went without any problem and we were given a friendly welcome by Michael in the morning as we set off on an exploratory walk around the village.

It was a real pleasure to get back from a day out on fells to a warm and cosy cottage, and it was the perfect size for us, with all essential items provided.

We try and get away at least once a year and go off grid for a bit and we got to do that here despite having the convenience of fast internet, a shop and a couple of great pubs at our desposal!

“Perfect”
Reviewed October 14, 2015 for a stay in April 2015

For a couple this accommodation is perfect for a break in the Western Lakes being really convenient for both Eskdale and Wasdale. A lovely large lounge, a pleasant kitchen/breakfast room with an original fireplace and a lovely bedroom with en suite (bath, no shower due to the headroom but not a problem: in fact, a delight to soak after a long day climbing the fells) and a small enclosed paved garden. The owners are really helpful and friendly and we are planning our next visit to this wonderful part of the world and, specifically, this ideal accommodation.
