Sat outside in the sunshine on the way back from Eskdale Show - great selection of real ale for £2.80 a pint. Lovely setting and handy for the station at The Green only a five minute walk away. We didn't eat here but noted that there were lots of tables outside, the majority under cover which is useful during the less glorious weather that you often get in the lakes. Would definitely visit again to sample a few more of the fantastic ales!

This a review of 2 distinct areas. If I had only been having a drink in this pub I would have been giving it a good review. Friendly staff, good choice of real ales, cosy bar area, good outside space with giant connect 4& skittles which the kids loved. They also still had the bouncy castle up which was a great attraction for our 2.

However we weren't just there for a drink but, unfortunately food! 2 of us has the Sunday lunch which obviously has been sitting most of the day. You could have loaded the roasties into a catapult and done a major damage to any game in the area. Mashed potatoes were like a mountain if glue, cauliflower cheese was liquid, you get the picture. One of the boys had sausage & chips. It was just the one sausage which had been deep fried within an inch of its life. There were fish cakes ordered which seemed to be the best of the lot. although any chips that were on the plates were very dry bordering on inedible.

All in all the food was quite bad which is such a shame as it is a lovely pub.

We came for a beer here several times and had food once with my family. The quality and quantity of the food is good as was the service. The range of beers is excellent. There's not much of an outside seating area as it' perched on the road but there is a few tables and a giant skittles and connect 4 set for the kids when the weather is dry.

This pub will suit those that like old style pubs with stone floors, log fires, and a focus on serving good food and ale in a warm rustic atmosphere. Those that prefer modern pubs with lots of lighting, wooden floors and big windows should avoid it (and go to the Woolpack instead).

Good to see an old style pub with history in the area. Worth stopping in for a pint.

Clean and comfortable with very helpful and friendly staff. We lunched there and service was very quick indeed, the ham and pineapple cob was delicious as was the steak baguette. Situated on the very edge of the road, but with little traffic to disturb you if sitting/dining outside. Well worth a visit.
