Clean and comfortable with very helpful and friendly staff. We lunched there and service was very quick indeed, the ham and pineapple cob was delicious as was the steak baguette. Situated on the very edge of the road, but with little traffic to disturb you if sitting/dining outside. Well worth a visit.

We have been visiting Eskdale for quite a few years now and always visit the King George at least once during our stays. It is a very traditional pub, with a log fire in winter and comfortable rustic seating. We have always found the staff to be pleasant and friendly. There is always a wide range of well kept real ales, sold at excellent prices and they hold their own Beer Festival each year. We have eaten there quite often and have always come away feeling we had an enjoyable meal. We normally eat in the lounge/bar area. There is a separate, more formal restaurant area at the back of the building. There is also covered outdoor seating available. On our most recent visit, we had the slow roasted lamb with gravy, minted mashed potatoes; carrots and peas. A huge plate of well cooked, melt in the mouth, tasty lamb, served piping hot. No room for anything else. The only down side was the place was extremely quiet - but it was midweek and mid-afternoon. I can imagine it would be a lot busier early evening.

We were staying at fisherground campsite nearby and decided to walk up and have an evening meal. It was pretty quite and because we had a large party and children we put ourselves in the corner of a very pretty little out building all lit up with little wall lights and comfy chairs. the service was quick and nothing was a bother. The food was very good, plenty hot enough and in big country style portions. The dessert was very much the same. There is even a small basic outdoor area for children with a giant connect for and skittles. Overall we were impressed and left happy and full. If we stayed in this part of the country again we would definatly return.

Friendly staff, nice atmosphere. Although it was only about 5 miles from where we stayed, it took a long time to get there along mainly single track roads.
