Friendly staff, nice atmosphere. Although it was only about 5 miles from where we stayed, it took a long time to get there along mainly single track roads.

Didn't stop to eat but sampled a few of their excellent real ales. Great selection, staff very welcoming.

Really disappointed with this pub. Had driven past it many times before and for one reason or another hadn't been in. As we were staying nearby and it was the nearest pub why not?

Just five of us with a pre-booked table. Very efficiently served by the very pleasant bar staff and shown to our table in an unoccupied annex and without the lights on. Not very inspiring. As they weren't full they offered us a table in the main area which had a much nicer feel to it. Some lovely beer on tap and food ordered, happy days! Cumberland sausage was very nice, but the accompanying mash was not very pleasant and rather too many lumps for our liking. Uninspiring gravy and overcooked vegetables. And that was the best meal out of the three variations we had. The meat in the steak and ale pie was dry and very unpleasant and had a mountain of chips, enough to have fed all five of us. I know walkers may need refuelling, but I for one would always go for quality over quantity. The child's meal was chicken goujons which looked unappetising and tasted it. Not helped by a dead fly embedded in one of the carrots.

In summary then a nice place for a drink but my advice would be to eat elsewhere.

Genuine country pub serving solid well cooked home made food - none of your catering company standard meals here. Excellent beer and charming local owners and staff. We look forward to going back.

We booked our dinner here whilst staying at the Fisherground Campsite up the road for one of our party's birthday, We were not disappointed. We were quickly shown to our table and drinks orders taken. There was no pre-ordering even though there was 11 in our group- 6 adults and 5 kids. The food was lovely and plentiful, the wine selection was brilliant for a little pub like this in the middle of nowhere and there was some good games outside for the kids.
We all really enjoyed our meal and service at the pub and were very thankful for it!!
