Booked as a last minute weekend break, we don't usually use B&B's, however Irton Hall has the feel of a 4 star hotel. O.k so theres no 24 hour reception and no room service but its made up for in other ways. The location is stunning, the hall itself impressive. The staff are friendly and helpfull, the breakfast to die for. We're just sorry we ate lunch out so didnt get a chance to try the bar meals on offer which smelt gorgeous!!! Don't overlook this place, its a beaut!!!

Room Tip: Been advised room 12 is the best. Our room (2) on the ground floor, was more than adequate.

We were touring the Lake District for a few days, and can't believe how lucky we were to have found Irton Hall. As most of the other reviewers say, it is just about perfect. Beautiful buildings, well decorated interiors, lovely big room and bathroom with every facility. Staff very friendly and helpful, and excellent dinner menu, we were spoiled for choice! Breakfast too was a delight. We would be delighted to return to Irton Hall

Stayed for 1 night on Saturday the 13th Oct.The Hotel is in a great secluded location with no traffic noise etc.
Tom escorted us to a fantastic spacious room,i would say recently renovated to a high standard.
With the size of the Hotel i was expecting it to be chilly but it was lovely and warm throughout.
Its a fantastic place to chill out and lots of walks nearby. We walked along the River Esk in to Ravenglass and caught the mini steam train back.
Breakfast was top class ,quality food and plentiful.
Will be back at sometime.

Room Tip: All very quiet

My Wife and I visited Irton Hall in late September 2012. I had arranged for a group of friends to stay too as a surprise for my Wife's birthday. We had 7 rooms in all and every one of our group had a wonderfull stay.

We were upgraded to room 12 which was at the front of the building with great views of the grounds and beyond. The room itself was very large and very nicely furnished, little extras such as the ipod dock and in room free WiFi were nice touches too.

The main reason for our stay being so lovely was the staff and management team. We were looked after very well throughout and nothing was too much trouble. Even on Saturday morning when they provided free tea and coffe for us to accompany the birthday cake.

This place was fantastic and easily the best B&B I've stayed in in West Cumbria ( I travel to and stay in the area a lot due to my work)

Thankyou for helping to make our stay so wonerfull.

We stayed in the main buiding and had a very comfortable ground floor room with one of the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in! The views across the wide green lawns, surrounded by trees and shrubs was lovely and the situation of the hall is quiet and peaceful.

The situation of the hall makes it easy to take in the beauties of Eskdale, Wasdale and that most beautiful of Lakes Wast Water. There is only a short drive to Ravenglass where you can take an expedition on the little Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway (cafes at each end of the tracks) and if you ask before setting off the driver will put you down at any of the stations along the way. Walking in the area or cycling is great (except don't take a bike over Hardknott and Wrynose Passes with their gradients of up to 30% unless you are a Bradley Wiggins!).

Breakfasts served in the bar are as comprehensive or as continental as you could wish for and the staff are very pleasant. Bar meals are served in the evenings if you should wish them. The hall has the feel of an hotel, but in that regard the only things lacking are a common seating area other than the bar, or your own room (more than comfortable!). Also if the Hall turns into a hotel (which is on the cards), a full dining room would be needed. But having said that what IS available is perfectly fine.

As an experience, this is a great place to stay, with friendly staff and very comfortable rooms. We would have no hesitation in returning here. This part of the Lake District is beautiful and less crowded than the touristy Meccas of Winermere and Ambleside. The Western Lakes are great and So is Irton Hall!

Room Tip: There are upstairs and downstairs rooms, also self catering is available on site too if that is your...

We were impressed by the website and because we were going as a party of 13, we decided to call the hotel direct and we were all surprised and delighted that we were offered a good deal.
On arrival, the website doesn't do the hotel justice, it is an amazing collection of self catering cottages, large self catering units ( 12 and 14 beds) all round a beautiful old Hall which is the main B & B.
Our standard room was superbly appointed with a large comfy bed lovely fresh linen and towels and a great bathroom with a spa bath.
Although listed as a B & B, they serve a good selection of top quality bar food, all freshly made and at a good price, as are drinks in the well stocked bar. Breakfast was excellent with a wide choice to suit everyone and enough to satisfy even the heartiest of eaters.
The grounds are well laid out and there is even a Volley Ball net set up on the front lawn, there are quite a few short walks around the hotel for the after breakfast stroll.
The staff couldn't do enough for the guests, no matter what requests we made someone sorted us out.
All in all, Irton Hall Hotel ranks as one of the very best B & Bs we have stayed in anywhere in the UK, it may be a bit pricey compared to other B & Bs in the lakes, but we would suggest asking for a deal, you may just be surprised, either way its superb value for money.
One minor niggle however, returning in the evening after a long hard walk, we were looking forward to the delights of the large spa bath, imagine our disappointment to discover that the water (at 6pm) was only tepid, not good!!!. Although some members of our party suffered the same, others didn't, the hotel may want to check this out.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front get the views but those at the back are overlooking a lovely wooded area. Always...
