Had a welcome pack been provided, this cottage would have received 5 stars from us. I've never stayed anywhere that doesn't provide a bit of milk and sugar, so we didn't bring any with us-planning to buy the following day. The late (4pm) check in time meant we had to do without.
Anyway, that said, the cottage is well presented with plenty of room for 6 of us. The garden is a lovely sun trap and we made use of the barbecue whilst we were there. The hamlet is peaceful and the local pub serves nice food. The nearby farm shop sells great meat, especially the pork chops!
All in all a lovely peaceful break, with trips out to Windermere and nearby Grange Over Sands... I would definitely recommend, just make sure you take milk and sugar!
Glendene is in a small, quiet village in the southern lakes, not far from Grange-over-Sands. There is a good pub serving excellent food within walking distance (it really is!) and a cafe serving breakfast just down the road which is a GOOD 10 minute walk - more like a 20 minute amble if you are not young!
Don't be misled by the picture, Glendene is bigger than it suggests and a lovely house with all the facilities required for a stress-free break. The garden is small but big enough with table and chairs for that coffee break in the afternoon.
For those with dogs, we had two, there are plenty of local walks through fields. We had a shock when we saw a notice 'Beware of the Bull', but the owner apologised and told us they'd forgotten to remove it when the bull was moved!
We will visit again without question when we find a suitable week available!
Great location to explore the Lake District. Near a nice pub with beautiful walks very close by. The house is lovely and warm with a nice deep bath. The kitchen is very well equipped and the garden secure. We all had a lovely holiday.
This was our second visit to Glendene, our first having been in April 2014. Since our last visit it's had a new bathroom and the addition of a downstairs toilet which makes it very practical for groups of more than 2.
We were staying there for my mother-in-law's 80th birthday and she was overwhelmed with how spacious yet cosy the cottage is. It's so peaceful that her evenings were spent 'resting her eyes' in the very cosy sofas in the lounge, while we read. The Crown pub was so convenient for her birthday dinner being just 100 yards from the front door.
The cottage is perfectly located within a few miles of the bottom of Windemere, and an important thing for us after a day of walking was that the beds are so beds comfortable - not too hard, not too soft.
To arrive and find a ready-made bed and towels ready to use really does make you feel welcome and ready to enjoy your stay. Being able to arrange a Sainsburys-to-you delivery to the cottage just after our arrival just made it all feel effortless! I'd thoroughly recommend a visit - we'll definitely be back!
This is one of the best holiday rentals I have had. The attention to detail inside was very much appreciated and well-thought out. Really recommend it.
This cottage is indeed Beautiful, very clean and has every utensil that you would need. Beds very comfortable and sofas in lounge so comfortable you don't want to leave, has a lovely garden to sit and let our small dog have a snif around. There is wifi in cottage and we enjoyed using this in the evenings. Good location with pub only a few mins away serves great evening meals. There are many places to visit, Grange over Sands, Windermere, Fellfoot Park and the lovely village Cartmel is well worth a visit. We also found a miniature village to look around it was well worth a visit and not far away. This is truly a great cottage and we will definitely come again.
