We booked Glendene for a few days over the half term with the kids. It was perfect! Such a lovely house - really spacious but cosy too. Tanya has thought of everything and it really felt like home from home. The place was spotless and beds really comfortable with toys and books for the kids - an added bonus. It was so quiet and peaceful, but easy distance to plenty of activities. The pub in the village was really lovely and it's a great location for exploring the lakes - near to Morecombe Bay, Lake Windemere etc. Love loved loved it and will definitely be booking again. Thank you Tanya!

“Just Perfect!!”
Reviewed August 4, 2014 for a stay in July 2014

What a fab property!! Spacious, clean, well equipped.. it felt like we were walking in a friend’s home, not a rented cottage. Every little detail for a traveller is well thought of and planned. Previous reviews have covered a lot so we would rather add than repeat.

Other than almost everything you need or want on a holiday – it has wifi, alarms in every room, hair dryer, a classic multi-purpose music player (bring your LPs and CDs with you to unwind after great walks around the lakes and fells!!). We discovered a cabinet full of good board games, a stocked book cabinet. Not for a moment we felt like we were away from our own home. It was like we have a dream home in the lake district.. Just perfect!!

Our 3 year old and 1 year old enjoyed as much as we did. We will be back.

Practical info: Two cars can park easily in front of the house, Walking distance to pub, 5 minutes to farm shop or the famous Yew antique yard, great walks to fells, 10 minutes to Windermere, 7 minutes to Grange-over-sands (Hazlemere Café is great for lunches and pastries), The restaurant at the Swan Hotel (newby bridge is only 5 minute drive), petrol pump at 5 minutes. While you are there, don't miss visiting John Ruskin's house (30 minute drive). It also has a scrummy Tea Room!

“When can we go back?!”

What a fantastic stay. A spacious cottage which very flexible accommodation. In fact, the kitchen is better than our own kitchen back home!

Many cottages can feel small and pokey - not this one. A very peaceful location with a pub less than 30 yards from the front door which means, after a long day of exploring the area, you can 'rehydrate' and, if you can't be bothered to cook, you can get a meal too. Very friendly staff, and dog friendly too. There's also a farm shop 10 minutes walk down the road where you can get your meats from, and the farm 3 doors up from the house sells eggs outside (with an honesty box). Can't get much fresher than that!

As a first time Lake District visitor it was ideal. Based approximately 3 miles from the bottom of Windermere it's a perfect location. It's away from the husstle and bustle of the big centres such as Windermere, Keswick etc yet close enough that within 10 minutes you're in the lake district.

At a practical level, the cottage on demand water so you'll never have to worry about there being enough water for everyone to shower or wash, the stairs are not steep so it's great for more 'mature' members of the family, and the beds are comfortable - not too soft, not too hard. The cooker is a rangemaster so it's got plenty of space and hobs if you're a party of 6, and the dishwasher means you're not having to argue over who's washing and drying (!) and instead spend time drinking tea around the lovely solid wood table in the kitchen, planning the next day with the map spread out in front of you.

There are plenty of child friendly features too: door guards, stair guards etc, and a dog friendly garden.

I'd thoroughly recommend it, value for money and we plan to go back again this year.

“Great Weekend”
Reviewed February 3, 2014 for a stay in January 2014

Just returned from a last minute break at Glendene which is a cosy welcoming cottage, had everything we needed and was just a short distance from many attractions. Had a weekend of board games and walking, along with visiting the zoo at South Lakes. The pub is just a short walk and very family friendly and does great meals. Only downside was the break was too short so will definitely return.

“Charming Cottage - Lovely Village”
Reviewed January 18, 2014 for a stay in December 2013

We had a wonderful stay at Glendene! Tanya was very prompt and courteous throughout our correspondence. If you are looking for a character cottage with plenty of space in a quiet little village, this is a fabulous place! We travelled with 2 young children and grandparents and there was room for all of us. It was also a child friendly cottage. By car, it was easy to access Grange over Sands. We also drove to Bowness and Windemere. Right in the village is a wonderful pub where we enjoyed tasty food and lots of charm.

Thanks for the stay!
