“Comfortable and clean”
Reviewed November 1, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

The cottage is warm and well equipped. The conservatory was particularly useful downstairs. However I felt the outside photos and cottage description were slightly misleading. The cottage is semi-detached and closely surrounded on two sides by other properties, some of which can see right into the upstairs bedroom windows. The garden is little more than a patch of grass outside the conservatory, which may be alright for a dog, but is not enough for children. The drive is accessed through two other properties, and access is rather narrow for a family sized car. Backing out on to the access road is tricky in the dark. Finally, Allithwaite is rather a dismal village in which to base a holiday, with one bare shelved Post Office/shop. The Pheasant is a nice pub but that is about it. The lack of pavements make it an unpleasant walk to the playground or to Cartmel.

I work very hard to ensure that The Hayloft maintains its Four Star Gold Award VisitEngland rating and it has just received it for 2016. The Hayloft offers value unavailable in the central Lakes and is located in a normal hillside village with an excellent pub and valuable PO/shop, but is different from its famous and expensive neighbour. Like everywhere your holiday experience will be enhanced by the weather and that is one thing we cannot control here in Cumbria. I will continue to make the best of my holiday cottage and continue to welcome back numerous repeat visitors.

“Lovely place to stay”

Enjoyed a great winter break here. Plenty of space for the family in a well equipped and comfortable cottage. Great location for access to the southern Lakes and coastal area.

“Relaxing stay in a dog friendly cottage.”
Reviewed October 24, 2014 for a stay in October 2014

Have just spent four days at "The Hayloft". On arrival a welcome tray of tea, coffee, sugar pint of milk and biscuits was waiting in a very clean spacious dog friendly cottage. It was a very relaxing place to stay in a convenient position for visiting the Lakes, especially close to Grange and Cartmel. Very well equipped kitchen, easy to prepare a meal.
As dogs are not allowed upstairs and the lounge is upstairs we stayed downstairs and sat in the conservatory but this was very pleasant overlooking the garden, take a torch with you if you will be taking your dog as the garden is very dark in the evenings.

“Lovely cottage and dog friendly too”
Reviewed October 23, 2014 for a stay in June 2014

We have stayed in this cottage in June 2013 (as a family with dog), June/July 2014 (as a couple with dog) and we are booked for June/July 2015 (as a couple with dog).

We can't fault the cottage. The cottage is dog friendly and has an enclosed garden, perfect for dogs or children. There is also a games room - perfect for kids, or for something to do in the evening/bad weather).

The pub is a 1minute walk away (also dog friendly) - the Pheasant Inn, is the "hub of the village" the food is delicious and the staff friendly and accommodating.

The Cottage, is located about 5mins drive away from Grange Over Sands; which has a few little shops to wonder around in, or for grocery shopping.

This year (2014) we stayed for two weeks and having a proper freezer was ideal, it meant that we didn't have to go shopping regularly. The cottage also has a washing machine (ideal for those who are outdoorsy type or have kids).

“Restful place to stay”

Had a lovely break in The Hayloft. Everything you could want is at hand and the whole house has been done to a high standard. And a garden that my dogs could not escape from!

“Everything you need”
Reviewed July 1, 2014 for a stay in June 2014

This is our second time staying at the Hayloft with our dog.

The cottage is well equipped and comes with everything you need. The welcome pack includes all the essentials you need for your first night in.

All the rooms are spacious and everything is clean.

The location is perfect, not being in the national park itself makes it quieter and the local pub is fantastic and is literally a 10 second walk away.

Enclosed garden is perfect for the dog and the downstairs is tiled and stays cool throughout the day which is perfect for a dog that gets hot very quickly.

The only thing to note is that it is slightly tight to turn the car into the drive way.

“Lovely conversion which is well laid out with two separate luving areas if required”
Reviewed June 24, 2014 for a stay in June 2014

We were looking for somewhere near the Lake District to share with relatives which had two bathrooms and that took dogs. This place was ideal. Well placed for Cartmel and Grange with a family run friendly pub within a stone's throw. The lack of pavements in the village makes for slightly nerve-racking walking to get anywhere but you are soon on quiet roads or footpaths with some lovely views over Morecambe Bay. We had a lovely week here. Cartmel is 5 minutes by car and charming. Grange with good bakers and chocolate shop has a Prom, overlooking the marshes and distant sands. The Lakes are a reasonably short drive away. Humphrey Head and Hempshall Hospice both worth a visit. Owner was very helpful. We would definitely stay again.
