I have just spent a weekend away with three colleagues at this truly wonderful hotel and cannot praise it highly enough. Chris and Andrea Varley and their team provide service which is almost imperceptible in that you are at times unaware that it's happening.
This is particularly true at dinner where an almost incomparable meal is laid before one in a quiet unfussy manner. As for the food itself, well this could not have been bettered in my opinion and that of my three friends, the chef is a genius of his art using the best of local produce.
If you are looking for glitzy swimming pools and a spa this is not the place for you but if elegance and peace is your style then stay here as often as you can.

It seems so long ago since we were married, but in May 2011 we had our wedding at Cartmel Priory and the next day, had our wedding breakfast at Aynsome Manor. The day was simply wonderful. Chris and the team could not have done any more for us. The service and the food were of fantastic quality, all of our family and friends commented on how perfect the day was. We genuinely had the best weekend of our lives - Aynsome will now always hold a special place in our hearts and we can't wait to return.

Room Tip: If you need something, just ask the team, they will bend over backwards to help.

This hotel ticked all the boxes for us and we were very pleasantly surprised at the quality of food, service and general comfort. Having just travelled down from a three night stay at Gleneagles the hotel had a lot to live up to and it did not disappoint. if a minimalist boutique hotel is your preference then this might not be for you but if you want a comfortable, friendly hotel, with a staff who obviously enjoy their work , in a lovely, calm rural setting close to lovely Cartmel, then you won't be disappointed.

We have just visited Aymsome Manor and really enjoyed our stay. It has something of an old world charm about it, which is reflected in their outstanding service! Chris the hotel manager was extremely attentive and put us straight at ease as soon as we arrived! The rooms aren't 5* mandarin oriental luxury but you have to remember you're in the lakes not Hong Kong! In terms of location it is roughly a 1 mile walk into cartmel which is no problem for hardened lake walkers! However, I would worry about walking in the dark, especially with kids as the road is narrow and traffic sometimes quick. Saying that there are also other alternate pathways which chris can suggest! Hotels in the lakes/England are very expensive, so I find it hard to comment on value for money but I believe it was fairly priced within it's Market! I enjoyed my stay and found it very relaxing. The views were nice and I love that they have retained some of their old world charm/character as it's hard to find these days! The service and the team are excellent! Well done!

One of the previous reviews was not totally complementary, all I can say is they must have stayed somewhere else. Right from driving into the car park at the front of the wonderful house right through to leaving after our all too brief visit, everything was first class.
The owners, the staff and whole ambiance of the place was just what we needed and recharged the batteries nicely.
We shall return only we will make sure that we stay longer.
