Encouraged by TA, my wife and I booked in for 730 Saturday night. We got there a bit early, plenty free parking outside (August!) and had a nice drink in a proper pub in the square. Went over to the restaurant and had a warm welcome from the owner. The décor is old fashioned and comfortable. Big sofas, lots of pictures and a large fire place that wood have logs burning in the winter. Good options on food, great wine list modestly priced. No problem making choices. Downstairs to the restaurant, seats 45 apparently, nice atmosphere, starters came quick, I had the mushrooms which were excellent. Portion sizes good, good and decent wait for the mains. All good, I had the steak medallions which were excellent, nice size portions, impossible for me to finish. Good attentive service without interfering. Now I’ve been there, I can’t believe the malicious moaner who gave this place the bad write up about opening hours on 14th June 2013. One desert and a couple of brandies and a modest bill at the end of it all. Will certainly return.
