This was my second year at Black Combe House. I choose it because it is in a quiet and beautiful location but reasonably close to Silecroft station so I can use the train to get to the Cumbrian coast towns for work. But there is another reason for choosing it. Not very often do you get offered a share of the owners' meal when you arrive, and little gifts left in your room as the days go by.

As someone else has noted, the breakfasts are designed to defeat with their generosity, and the quality of the ingredients is high.

Rooms are not the largest, but they are clean, individual and well finished. Views are good on both sides, unless you are upset by a wind farm and Haverigg prison in the distance on the seaward side (the sea is a mile or so away). And it was good fun watching the lambs in the field. I would go there soon since the area is under threat of a nuclear power station. Free WiFi is available, important if you need internet because 3G wireless signals are unreliable around here.

Just enjoyed a couple of nights at this excellent B&B.
The room was clean and tidy, bathroom was spotless with red hot shower.
Owner takes a lot pride in his monster full english breakfasts, bit too much but its better than not enough.
The lounge was available for us to use in the day/evenings.
100 yards away there is a beautiful old worldy pub, log fire, low beams. good food and a nice pint.
First time we have explored this part of the lake, will definitely be back again.

We stayed here for two nights in early June. We were welcomed with a cup of tea and the offer of a scone which was nice. Breakfast content and timing was agreed and arranged the evening before although our hosts seemed somewhat confused that we didn't want the full English breakfast but it was certainly on offer.

The room was very nice with a large bathroom and good shower. The only negative point I can mention is that the walls are quite thin and we could clearly hear the gentleman next door snoring!

Checkout was also very straightforward and the friendly service made us feel welcome.

On arrival at this delightful place, we were welcomed by the owner with a cup of tea and scones. Not a welcome you get in many places. The place was clean and was a lovely place to stay. We really enjoyed our time here. The breakfasts were excellent - full English or other choices available. This is only a bed and breakfast but with a pub over the road you didn't need any more. We will definitely be going back here.
