“Good vegeterian”
Reviewed February 1, 2014

I ate here two nights during a cycle tour. I am a vegetarian and found that there was more than one option for me and the food was very good for the price. Also a good range of beers and wines for a smallish pub and great atmosphere and friendly staff.

This could be the Village Inn that everyone wishes was there local!

A group of 10 family and close friends stayed in Greystoke for a week over New Year. From our first visit on the Friday afternoon we were all made to feel extremely welcome in this cosy village Inn. The owners, Jan and Ben, and all their staff were genuinely interested in providing great service with a smile and a laugh to 'Boot' so to speak.

Our group dined in the evenings a few times and all our meals were delicious, hot and served in good time. On one occasion three steaks were required as rare, medium/rare and medium. I would have to say all were done to perfection. I would say it is advisable to book a table if there is a group of you as this is a very popular Inn, and deservedly so.

We called in each day of our weeks stay in Greystoke (sometimes more than once!) and the service was excellent no matter what time of day or evening it was.

The Inn generally has a couple of live bands on during the week (Thursday and Sunday). Each band we saw was excellent and provided a great atmosphere in the Boot and Shoe with visitors and locals all joining in.

Thursday night was quiz night, which appears to be a regular and very well attended evening. We will be back for that one again, but sadly not to defend any crown!

Whilst we didn't stay in the en-suite bedrooms, we did talk to other guests who confirmed they were extremely happy with their accommodation and service.

Overall, a must visit!

Thank you very much for your kind comments. It is always a pleasure to look after customers and even more of a pleasure when appreciated as much as your group did. We missed you at the quiz last night, it was easier this week you might have won.

Look forward to your visit again next year, hope you all have a great summer.
Regards Ben and Jan

Great pub, great management/owners, great service, but a not so great Sirloin steak. We stayed at the 'Ullswater Suites' over New Years & thought we would try the Boot & Shoe's restaurant on 30th due to all the positive feedback on TA. Generally the food was great but the steak was very disappointing i.e. it was well done-not medium rare, it looked very anaemic & was thinnest steak I have even seen to grace a plate especially at £20 for 10ozs!

We called in after visiting Rheged (wich was disappointing) to book for sunday lunch on saturday the 28th for my 50th birthday the next day and decided to have something to eat.
We both had the warm ciabatta cajun chicken with salad and a bowl of chips to share. The ciabatta was lovely and had we had known would have got one to share as it was a big sandwich.
The next day we went for sunday lunch and this too was very nice both of us having the roast beef and cheesecake to follow.
We really could not fault the place and would go back again if in the area. A very nice cosy village pub

We called in for dinner the other night and had a great evening. The curry was excellent and the beer to accompany was a great local ale. Excellent value for money, friendly team and great food - large portion sizes!!

Thanks all, we will be back again soon

Four of us stayed here on business for one night. Rooms were clean and tidy and the food was excellent. The pork belly for starters was the best I have ever tasted and the fish and chips were perfect.

Booked here for a family meal for 6 people on Friday night. One person unfortunately couldn't make it, it was no problem and they moved a chair away to give us a bit more room. Lovely meal, good service, the room was a little small but overall a good experience and I would return.
