We spent a night at the Stafford House on the way up to Scotland and what a hidden gem! Ian and Hazel made us feel so welcome. We had the room on the top floor and it was so comfort able with a big marshmallow bed and duvet with spectacular views of the garden. Little touches like a bowl of fruit in the room made it above and beyond what we would expect.. Everything was clean and homely with lots of personal touches.

The breakfast was splendid with local produce.. Plenty to choose from too.

We both arrived with bad backs and hazel, bless her carried both the cases across the car park and up 3 flights of stairs. Really was above and beyond any previous experiences at guest houses.

Would not hesitate to recommend this place and hope to go up again soon as a good base to visit the Lake District.

I used Greystoke as a base for a short break and what a great stay it was. Stafford House is a Grade 2 Listed Folly with a wonderfully kept garden in the grounds of Greystoke Castle, and I'm more than happy to recommend it.

Run by Hazel and Ian, who is also responsible for the gardens, I had the twin room & shared the well provided bathroom/wc. More shower/soaps/creams etc than any hotel I've ever stayed in. Although you share the bathroom/wc that not a problem, Hazel will hear you as you creep in & out and will change the towels and check that nothing needs cleaning.

The bedroom had as much and probably more than a 4 star hotel with fresh fruit (2 apples Satsuma? 2 types of grapes and a pear), a snack biscuit, various drinks of tea's & coffee's and chocolate, Wi-Fi, bath robe and a flat screen tv. Storage was in a period style wardrobe and chest of drawers.

The Full English breakfast of egg (as you like it) 2 thick rashers of bacon, 2 sausages, hash brown, beans, mushrooms, tomatoes and toast kept me going all day, and in fact I was reducing it as my stay progressed, was always warm and well presented. There was also several cereals, fruit juice and yogurts, all followed by a hot drink of your choice.

Overall, a great place to stay with a wonderful host. I see no reason not to return or recommend Stafford House in the future and wish Hazel and Ian every success. They say 'if it seems too good to be true, then it probably is'....not in this case.

I can't recommend Stafford House enough. Hazel and Ian were exceptional hosts and welcomed me everyday with a beautifully presented veggie breakfast and a smile. Stafford House is located within the grounds of Greystoke Castle and is surrounded by pristine gardens and the aroma of summer flowers. If you're looking for a great location and friendly, welcoming village then you can't go wrong booking a stay here. Highly recommended... I will be going back. Exceptional value for money :-)

Think of a warm welcome, typical of the country side. Then think of a beautifully located country style house. Place it within a castle (Greystoke Castle), and add a stunning garden all around it - which the owner (gardener) takes care of. You're not dreaming, you just got to this wonderful B&B, just few minutes away from the lake district.

We stayed here for just one night - the last one of our holidays, sigh - but we are definitely coming back. The place is really quiet and well furnished, the living room is absolutely amazing. The rooms are big and welcoming. The staff so kind and nice we hardly manage to stop chatting in the morning! Breakfast was lovely, all products tasted fresh and portions were huge.

A little more expensive of the average B&B, but you will understand why as soon as you get there. And you will realise it is definitely worth the money.

Room Tip: Should not you get an en-suite room, the hosts constantly keep an eye on the shared bathroom to make...

I stayed here as part of the cycling coast to coast challenge, I literally have never seen a b&b like it! The grounds are fantastic, the owners are just the nicest people ever, and the rooms are fantastic value for money. If you get a chance to stay do it! 11/10 I will be back

GROUNDS
Exceptionally pretty grounds - from a previously run stately home. Easy to find with the directions I was given by Heather (and with a satnav, of course).

WELCOME
Very welcoming, very nicely furnished. Fruit basket in addition to all the more usual refreshments in the room.

ROOM
I was shown around all three rooms. Very happy with the high level of comfort and cleanliness.

BREAKFAST
Absolutely excellent! A huge plate covering every item associated with a good Full English Breakfast. Everything had been thought of and looked very appetising. Very attentive service.

PRICE
We booked this at the very last minute, and I felt it was such good value - £40 B&B for single use of a twin room.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! I can see why it has a first-class rating on TripAdvisor and cannot speak highly enough of Stafford House, and of Heather.

Room Tip: Having been shown the double room, when Heather was showing me around, I can confirm that it looked...

An old Lodge in the grounds of Greystoke Castle, the fictional home of Tarzan's ancestors. Striking building inside and out, luxurious, spotless and comfortable rooms, tended by Hazel (and her Mum) set in magnificent gardens, thanks to the skills of Ian. We loved staying here, and have only praise for the owners and their superb service. For added interest, watch the birds and red squirrels feeding in the trees outside the windows. Five minutes walk takes you to the village and it's excellent pub/restaurant. Do go there!
