The bunk facility at Stafford Lodge is superb. It has everything that you need, including fresh towels and even gels and shampoo.the wet rooms are better than you will find in most hotels and the kitchen is well presented and superbly equipped. Breakfast can be arranged for an extra fee. You choose what you would like the night before and the friendly staff deliver it to your kitchen table in the morning. There were 6 of us cycling the Coast to Coat cycle route and we were all thrilled with the facilities and enjoyed the comfortable beds. The Boot and Shoe pub is just outside the entrance gates and there was nothing more that we could have asked for for our 1 night stay.

We had booked another B&B on Latehotels but were let down when the accomodation told us we were double booked , that turned out to be a stroke of luck for us .
So I looked on GoLakes website and was immedeately drawn to the picture of Stafford House . On reading the info and looking at the pictures on the site it seemed just the job . The price was right , the room ensuite , it looked clean and comfortable with stacks of character . So I booked it !

The following day I received a response from the owners ,Hazel and Ian, confirming our booking . It included advice on dining out and an offer to book us a table at the local pub. It felt right to us ,so we booked .It turned out to be terrific advice and a very good option for eating and drinking :-).
Instruction to find the B&B was comprehesive and we easily found it without any problem at all.
Our first sight of the property made us gasp , it looks stunning, it looks terrific on the website but even better in real!
Ian seemed to appear out of nowhere to introduce himself , we were still sitting in the car openmouthed staring at it !

We were taken inside and shown around , Hazel was waiting for us at the top of the stairs by our room . The attention we received was far ,far in excess of any we have ever had before at any level of accomodation .
After an hour, perhaps more, of tour and good advice and amiable chat , we found ourselves alone in our beautiful room , a little taken aback if honest , it was so much better than we had expected even though we had read the great reviews on Trip Advisor. It certainly lives up to them ..
That night we were the only guests so the TV room adjacent to our bedroom was like a living room to us . Furnished with Leather Chesterfields and bowls of chocolates we were soon feeling at home .
In that introduction and tour of the property we were informed of the best things on the pub menu , told that another warm welcome would coming our way at the pub and warned that it was not unknown for the evening at the pub to turn messy (in the best possible sense ;-) ).
We were told about the local wildlife , the noise we could expect in the morning from the birds , and to watch out for the red squirrels which can be seen in the wonderful garden and grounds.

The room itself was sumptuous , the bed was sooo comfortable and there was more full pillows than anyone could ever need or use .
Not only was there the usual tea and coffee ,hot chocolate but cappachino , high quality biscuits , fresh fruit , and Hazel even brought us some fresh milk instead of those little cartons (there was little cartons as well if you preffered but who would)! The room had a TV with a good range of channels ,plenty of storage , an ensuite room with shower and quality toiletries.

Attention to detail seems to be Hazel and Ians motto . Nothing was left to chance .

We had to fill in a form (circle items) for breakfast so that they knew exactly what to cook us . We suspected that the portions may be huge ,so omited to have porridge or cereals ,although if we had wanted them in the morning I am sure it would not have been a problem .
The portions as it turned out were huge and all oven cooked to keep the calories down .. they even knew the calorific value of the plates of food we both demolished!
Superb breakfast with top quality ingredients , faultless !! The organic coffee too was great !
Although we did not take advantage of it , I believe that they will do a packed lunch for a small fee , if its only half as good as everything else it will no doubt still be superb!

All in all it was a perfect stay .....made all the better by the geniality of the hosts . As good as the buildings and facilities are (and they are as good as they get) the real magic of the place comes from Hazel and Ian's personalities , they are warm and welcoming and make you feel like you are staying at a friends house rather than a B&B...... even better than staying at a friends house actually!! .
They must see hundreds of people every year come and stay at Stafford House but we have the feeling that they remember every single one of them . If you stay at Stafford House you can rest assured that you will never be just another guest .

Room Tip: We had the ensuite but would have been perfectly happy in the double on the floor below .

I've just returned from a 2 night walking holiday. I would echo what others have said about the high standards of this establishment. The bedroom, bathroom and guest living room were of luxurious comfort and quality. The food at breakfast on both days was of excellent quality and volume, I had both English and salmon/scrambled eggs, also provided are all the additional items you would expect at a top hotel e.g. porridge, cereals, fruits etc. At all times the heating was in use ensuring a very comfortable environment. The setting is wonderful and unique set in the grounds on Greystoke Castle with a pub within minutes walk.

Most of all though, which gives it 5 stars for me, is the welcome and warmth of the hosts. I genuinely felt valued as a guest. I will be back and have already recommended to family and friends. Well done!

Room Tip: Ensure if you want ensuite you choose so, as 2 rooms share a bathroom.

My husband booked Stafford House guest house as a birthday treat. Am so glad he did as we had an absolutely fabulous stay. Hazel and Ian are a lovely couple and made us feel very welcome. The double room we stayed in was very nicely presented and spotlessly clean. The breakfast was delicious with lots of choice. Is excellent value accommodation and only a stone's throw from the rest of the village of Greystoke, where we enjoyed a very delicious and perfectly cooked steak dinner and fine bottle of wine and also sampled some of the real ales in the local pub 'The Boot and Shoe`. We were also surprised how close the property is to the rest of the Lake District. We would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone and certainly intend to return for another visit which speaks for itself.

Wh have been visiting Stafford House since opening a couple of years ago, and I say visiting as it feels we are visiting friends and stopping over. The accommodation is fantastic whichever room you stop in, the breakfast is wonderful. We always recommend and visit at least once a year, a beautiful spot run by wonderful people. Visit and enjoy.

Room Tip: The barn conversions for the cyclists and walkers. The double room for a fantastic romantic break...
