The hike around Ennerdale water takes about 3 hours. I would suggest going around counter clockwise thereby doing the hardest parts first. It is not very difficult. The views are spectacular.

So much is beautiful on Wainwright's Coast-to-Coast Walk -- Ennerdale Water is right at the top. The C2C hike goes alongside the entire length of the lake and the views are sublime, even in the drizzle! Don't rush on this section of the C2C; it is so absolutely gorgeous. Give yourself some time to just let the beauty sink in and refresh you.

There is a quiet track which runs up the west side of this tranquil lake, with a few spots to sit by the waterside, or to pic-nic at. There's a car-park at the start of the track too. The mountain views are great, and it is also the start for a few good walks.

There are no facilities, but in Ennerdale Bridge just a mile and a half away, there is both the Fox & Hounds pub, and the Shepherds Arms -both with good real ales.

We walked along the south side of the lake at the start of the second day of the Coast-to-Coast trail. What a beautiful and tranquil start to what proved to be a quite challenging day as we took the Red Pike high route to Rosthwaite.
