“A beautiful place”
Reviewed September 21, 2013

I was only able to stay here one night during my Coast to Coast walk, but I wish I could have stayed longer. An exceptionally comfortable and large room, separate from the farm house, with great views and facilities. Its a place I will definitely go back to. The breakfast was excellent, and the advice provided by Roger & Christine was of great value. A real friendly place.

Room Tip: I had an apartment called 'Tan'. It is in a converted barn; I think there is at least one si...

Room was delightful, all new and modern, not what we expected of a B&B in England. Roger picked us up from the Fox & Hound, gave us detailed directions and maps of how to join the Coast to Coast from their place on the north side of Ennerdale Water. Breakfast was brilliant, just the thing to get us started on the days walk. If driving to Ghyll farm take notice of the signs, keep to the right to avoid the Ghyll (thats a creek for Australians)

We chose this B&B for an overnight stop based on the high praise it received in reviews on here. We were not disappointed! Welcoming hosts, a splendid location, excellent rooms in a converted barn, with a delightful garden to sit in and soak in the views and the peace and quiet. Breakfast was also excellent - delicious local bacon and sausage! Thanks Roger and Chris, we will be back.

This was our second night on our coast to coast walk. Whilst a little off our route we walked here after an early pub supper. We received a wonderfully warm welcome and offered a choice of rooms. We chose two beautiful rooms in a converted barn with a little shared garden with outstanding views. We luxuriated in a first class shower and enjoyed coffees in the garden as dusk fell and owls called to each other. The rooms were wonderfully well furnished with the bed deserving special mention. A splendid breakfast was accompanied by helpful tips and maps for our onward walk.
Definitely one to return to.

We stayed here on our first night walking the C2C... Arrived at Ennerdale Bridge and went into the local for a well earned beer. We then didn't have the energy to find our way to Ghyll farm as we knew it was a way out of the village. The publican told us to give Roger a call and he was sure he would come to collect us from the village which he did. Unfortunately we didn't realise just how far out of the village we were and we did have to arrange for taxis (Roger sorted this too) to collect us to go down to the pub for supper and then take us back to Ghyll Farm. It worked out very expensive but was worth it for the incredible accommodation and warm welcome from both Roger & Chris.
Breakfast was perfectly cooked and a good selection... We were the only ones staying that night but I am positve that our welcome and treatment would of been just as good had there been other guests.
Our only concern was that it was quite a way out of Ennerdale and maybe wouldn't suit all C2Cers!
We started our walk from the farm the next morning with maps and weather reports for the day ahead printed out for us by Roger.Thankyou both for a lovely stay and for being so helpful. We would definitely return and recommend you to friends and family.

A wonderful stop on the C2C. Coming from down under we did not know what to expect on our first night but Roger and Chris were terrific hosts with a wealth of knowledge to share. Their accommodation was a tasteful renovation with attention to detail making this feel like a luxurious destination. Their locally sourced breakfast foods were delicious and the lunch to go was much appreciated later in the day. It will be hard to beat this accommodation as we progress further along the C2C.Thanks for a great stay!

An overnight stay at Ghyll Farm has little of a farm feel about it once you have entered your room, other than location and the views, which are stunning! Lovely hosts, excellent modern and tastefully designed rooms and facilities, and beautifully clean and comfortable, the biggest bed I have ever slept in, followed by a first class breakfast, I couldn't fault it in any way. Will without doubt make a return visit soon.
