Arrived soaked and earlier than expected and everything was quickly taken away and returned dry the next morning . Food good and plentiful - dinner and breakfast. Excellent support for walkers - speedy breakfast served at a good time and everyone was on their way with packed lunch by 9am.

Room Tip: Had a room above the bar. Was quite a lot of noise from below but not an issue as everyone staying w...

The Shepherd Arms Hotel had a comfortable room, though the private bath was down the hall. Dinner and breakfast were generous and tasty. The bar is popular with locals, but we were unfortunate enough to have the room over the entry, so the coming and going was a distraction.

Room Tip: Rooms in back are quieter.

We happened upon this hotel by chance looking for a quick bite to eat. We had a lovely welcome from Diana who was amazingly friendly and informative. We tested the beers before selecting our favourite. Quite delighted by being able to do so . Looking at the specials board and menu made us choose to reserve a table for an evening meal. What a fantastic experience. Wonderful and creative menu choice I hate haggis but tempura battered whiskey infused haggis with a sweet chilli sauce as a starter was unbelievably good. Helens cooking is the best I have tasted in a long time. I will be recommending this for our weekly meal out without hesitation. My only criticism or suggestion would be some background music in the bar to create a bit more atmosphere.

We had a great day of walking from St. Bees and arrived at this wonderful hotel - they had reserved a table for our supper and we had a great meal. Breakfast was filling and the packed lunch was what was needed for the long day ahead - the room was large and clean - it was also very quiet for a good night's sleep.

Shepherd’s Arms

I loved staying at the Shepherd’s Arms—friendly hardworking landlord and staff, wonderful food (the lamb shank was amazing). An elegant, very reasonably priced B&B in a beautiful setting.

Lovely room - great decoration, nice size (my room was definitely not small), great amenities (nice biscuits in room, hairdryer provided etc!). Was such a shame they had recently been flooded, as the new owners had only been open for a year (think the negative reviews below refer to the previous owners), but it didn't affect our stay at all. Lunch and dinner were fantastic, breakfast great, all staff could not do enough for us, and packed lunch the next day was great. I stayed here on the C2C but would like to come back for a longer break, I enjoyed my stay here so much!
