I visisted the Fox & Hounds very recently for a family celebration!

And I can honestly say the food was excellent, couldnt fault it.

The pub was very empty at the time & its seemed sucjh a shame.

Worth a try & deffo will be back.

We ate here one cold wet Saturday night in January after a longish trip up to take a parent home after the Christmas/ New Year break. We used to come here a lot for pub meals but the pub closed for a period of time, so this was the first time back for us after a bit of a break. It's now run by the village community and I hope locals support it because although it was a lousy night we were the only people in there eating. It's always been a cosy pub. The menu choice is good and quality excellent. Good choice of beers brewed locally in Ennerdale and from other micro-breweries. They have rooms, books to borrow and feature local and community events and attractions. Would be a goood choice for a stay for anyone walking locally in the area or doing the Coast to Coast. Support it!

This was our second stop on the coast to coast walk and the Fox & Hound's was ideal - a good example of a community run pub. Comfortable rooms and excellent pub food. Disappointingly venison was off the menu. its a little strange eating breakfast in the bar but don't let this put you off, the Fox & Hounds will look after you.

A group of 7 of us spent two evenings here last weekend while staying in Ennerdale for a long walking weekend. We can thoroughly recommend it for the food. It was very popular on Saturday night as a group of students arrived just as we did, so the service was understandably slower. There was a great atmosphere and it was a friendly place.

Arrived at the pub late afternoon on the first day or our Coast To Coast walk. Great friendly atmosphere. Nice large room with a bath, good after a days walking. The food was excellent and be sure to try the Ennerdale Darkest ale. The room was a good size with a bathroom of comparable area. Our room looked out over the picturesque street and bridge. Breakfast was also just right for the days walk. Don't miss this B&B

This is perfection in a pub, rescued by local people and expertly run by very friendly staff well-supported by equally friendly local people. Good, tasty food - Cumberland sausage and the like with very fine roasts on Sunday lunchtime - and lively company.

We stayed in Room 3 which is big enough to sub-let sections (and you could house another family in the bathroom). Very comfortable although light sleepers who go to bed early might be disturbed by noise from the bar, Dominoes make an incredible racket.

We went on from here to Black Sail youth hostel which is incomparable, but we liked the Fox and Hounds so much that we said to one another "Why don't we stay here instead?" Book in season cos it's on the Coast to Coast which gets very busy.

My husband and I stayed here as part of our Coast to Coast walk. It was a joyful sight after the terrific rain we were caught in. The room was a blessing - it was spacious, well decorated, warm and had the most amazing bathroom we had ever seen. Truly, the best first stop we could have imagined for our C2C (and a good drying room)! The bar had some amazing ales to choose from (try the Ennerdale Blonde - it is amazing!) and the bar staff were so freindly. We both ate steak, which was well prepared and yummy.
We were greeted in the morning by one of the 'shared owners' due to staffing difficulties ( we think due to the bad weather - we went when the floodings happened). Despite not having a waitress our service was covered and we had the most amazing breakfast! Best full English I think I had!
For us, this Inn was well worth the money for so many reasons, not least its sense of community and let's face it, how many of us really experience that? From a C2C perspective it was a great first stop and we would highly recommend it to others.
Many thanks.
