“Great location for walks and a cracking little pub across the road.”
Reviewed November 24, 2012 via mobile

I spent two weeks in jubilee house the firefighters charity rehabilitation facility. My wife decided to come dowm for the weekend but i didnt want to stay there but wanted to show here around penrith. The crown looks a bit old but nice from the outside. The manager was a lovely bloke and even dropped us off in the town on the morning. This was a cheap place to stay for £55. Its certainly not a top hotel and the deco is dated but the bed was comfy and a taxi into town was less than a fiver. Im not gonna slate the place as we had a great night and needed to keep down the cost with christmas just around the corner. You get what you pay for, but great location for nice walks and some fresh air.

I read with interest the reply but the Crown remains firmly closed. It opened following a change of management and renovations did appear to start, then it hit the buffers and closed again? Someone said a licencing mix up but it still stands forlorn at the end of the village looking sorry for its self. Real shame as years ago they even had a steak bar in the out buildings that proved very successful. Someone somewhere needs to get it back on line and develope its potential once again offering meals and B&B even without a pub surely this could be possible? Would meals with bring your own bottle be a possiblity to get the life back into the Crown? The village misses a second pub and other organisations that used the Crown will now have moved on so these will need to be re captured. Come on get the place warmed up again.

Room Tip: Currently Closed so dont hold your breath!!!

This hotel looks like it hasnt had a lick of paint since it was built in the 1700s.It looks lovely from the outside ;but the inside lets it down badly.I think ourselves and our friends were the only ones in their and i;m not surprised. We even declined breakfast the next morning;our friends did say though it wasnt too bad;although it wasnt good.As for value we would give it 1 out of 10 and thats being genorous

The reviewer is TOTALLY CORRECT - it does need a revamp.

We obtained the hotel mid June 2012 and the revamp has begun. The external is being decorated/rhones replaced and repaired. Windows repaired and new signage. The bar, lounge and 'dancing area' are now decorated and clean and the bedrooms are beginning their upgrade programme. We are open for business at the moment with a few rooms upgraded.

Kitchen is being upgraded (New Chef). We have changed all staff - all relatively local and focussed.

Food will start to be served in the bar/lounge by end of July and in our restaurant by the August Bank Holiday. Come and try us.

Thank you for your review - although you were disappointed there are signs of balance (sleep quality and location got 3 out of 5 - not really satisfactory but indicative of something almost right - we are dealing with the other indicators)

We booked 2 rooms for 1 night. Met other friends there for meal, they were in B&B in Brougham. Plenty selection for meals and very reasonable. We had a brilliant night with loads of laughs and drinks, the owner took our friends back to their digs at 2 am. Good breakfast. Bed linen and towels brilliant white and well laundered. Only gripe - rooms are a bit dated- but clean and comfortable. No shower in ensuite.
