First impressions were excellent. The entrance is lovely with fantastic decor. The receptionist was very friendly and welcoming. However, the room was a huge disappointment. It was tiny; I had to place a tub chair on the spare bed as there wasn't room for it. The bathroom was badly in need of updating; the grout was grimy and the silicone sealant around the bath was mouldy.
The food in the restaurant was not that good either. £19.95 for 2 courses was too expesive especially when the duck breast was overcooked and tough. The house wine was also pricely at £6 a glass. On my 2nd night I ate in the bar. I thought I couldn't go wrong with a curry but it was the worst I've ever had. The sauce was almost entirely made of cream with very little spice (it was the colour of capuccino coffee). More like cream with a hint of curry. The breakfast however was very good; there was lots of fresh fruit to choose from which I appreciate when living away from home. Unfortunately, it was too late to restore my disaapointment and opinion of this hotel. I won't be going again.

Booked a few days away with hotel connexions and got this great hotel for £65 per night D/B&B for both of us.It's a lovely old building in the western part of the Lakes with beautiful grounds, we had a farmhose room and although the receptionist said we were ground floor it was but we had a balcony that was about 15 feet up!!
The room had a small staircase to the main part of it, lovely oak beams and 2 great beds. The food was superb and the staff very helpful and friendly. As like any hotel the bar was a bit pricey although there are a couple of pubs within walking distance they weren't much cheaper.
This hotel is well worth a visit, i am sure the gardens and the surroundings would be great on a lovely summers day although it was very cosy with the real log fires.

We have just had an enjoyable weekend break at the Ennerdale Hotel and for people wanting "special offer " reasonably priced accomodation this fits the bill .
We booked direct with the hotel chain for 2 nights b.b and felt we obtained good value for money .The standard rooms are comfortable with little noise and the usual ammenities expected from a 3 star. The hotel has a "lived in look " but personally we prefer this to the sterile corporate type .The staff were very friendly and accomodating and appeared to be locals which was appealing . The breakfast was excellent and freshly prepared .The location was perfect for Ennerdale Water and the coast and we visited St Bees and enjoyed a walk around the very quiet lake .
On the negative side the bar tariff was silly(£4 for a beer ) which forces you to explore alternative watering holes and you soon discover a pub called "The Brook " literally 5 minutes down the road towards Cleator .The pub is a little "gem " with reasonably priced real ale such as T.Taylor Landlord ,well priced food and a genuine hospitable welcome from the staff .We dined there both nights and can only comment that if the hotel reviewed their tariff for food and drink they would not have empty tables in the bar and dining room on an evening .We would definately re-visit the hotel on the same package but probably eat out at the Brook .

We arrived on a very cold Friday afternoon in the new year and were met by a friendly receptionist ' Kelly ' .
We booked a standard double room at a very good price anyway, but were then upgraded to a suite with Jacuzzi bath !! which was a nice treat . I had requested a quite room when i booked and we were given just that , a room right at the bottom of the farmhouse annex . The room was lovely and warm with a huge bed , a sofa and also a chair , so no need to sit on the bed to watch any TV . We did have doors on to a balcony but it was too cold to admire the lovely gardens . We were given a key to the main door as it is locked at 11.30pm with no problem and we were made to feel at home all the time we were there by Kelly .
Breakfast was good but we only ate at the hotel for dinner on the last night as the pub down the road ( The Brook ) had been recommended to us and we were impressed with the food at the Brook . It does get busy though so you are best to book at the weekends . This hotel was ideal for visiting surrounding areas but there is not a great deal within the immediate area( Cleater ) but this was fine for us as we are happy popping down the
' local ' in the evening as we were out and about in the day . Would recommend this hotel to friends if you are looking for value for money and a good base for visiting the lakes etc .

Just got back from a one night stay at the Ennerdale with my husband. Quite honestly one of the best nights I've ever had in a hotel. It was very warm and cosy as soon as we stepped in (roaring log fires) and a nice friendly reception. We upgraded our room to the bridal suite for just an extra £20. It was well worth it!! Huge jacuzzi bath (ideal for 2!), four poster bed, gorgeous views of the gardens, lovely lamps/decor, playstation/DVD/Stereo/Alarm clock/Hairdryer etc. The bathroom was lovely and warm as hadf underfloor heating and the whole hotel was very toasty warm for 3rd January! The receptionist also kindly lent us £50 to go to the local pub as it would take cards and we had our own key to get back into the hotel. Then what a good night sleep... Total silence...! So peaceful. And an added bonus - breakfast at 10 at weekends and checkout not until 11. For £60 for us both in the bridal suite - I would definately go back. What a gem of a place!

A lovely warm greeting awaited us when we arrived on a dark, cold and windy night - both from the 'real' fire burning in the entrance hall and from the staff.

Although the hotel is a bit 'tired' it has character and the dining room and views over the garden are lovely.

We thought the dinner was very good (although the wine by the glass was very pricey at £4.50!) as was the breakfast.

The only problem we had was that our room was on the (busy) main road, so we were woken early by the traffic.

Still, at the special offer rate of £40.00 per room (b&b) through Travelzoo, we felt it was good value for money and if the same deal is on offer again we won't hesitate to rebook.
