I stayed at Lodore Falls Hotel with my friend for the three night Latrigg Break. The experience of fine dining in the Restaurant was delightful. The food was excellent. The table service was first class. Breakfast was generous and plentiful. Our eggs were poached to perfection. The assortment of fruits was interesting and it was wonderful to have porridge served as standard. The lounges are very comfortable and the grounds and gardens beautiful.

My wife and I spent our honeymoon here 15years ago, and my parents had spent their honeymoon here 50 years ago, so it seemed fitting that we go and celebrate together August 18-23. A lot of companies have had ownership of the Lodore in those past 15 years, and based on the reviews of the present owners on tripadvisor, there were more favourable that negative. I must say, we were all pleasantly surprised on how well the property has been upgraded and maintained! The feeling we had as we arrived was of complete calmness and relaxation, and the Lodore didn't dissapoint. We noticed how well the gardens were maintained, the lobby seemed upgraded and in very good repair, and the lounge was very welcoming and relaxing. We had requested a lake-view room, 2nd floor ~ what a view! Skiddaw, Derwentwater...everything one could wish for on a sunny day! The room itself was in excellent shape, the decor was up to date as were the bathroom and fixtures. TV with remote, tea service set (with shortbread!), desk and enough space for two adults and luggage. The bed was also very comfortable! We had noticed that the elevator was still the original one from many years ago, so we always opted for the stairs...looking at all the pictures/paintings on the stairwell intrigued us, and made our journey downstairs a little longer! The dining room was excellent! Service seems to be made up of Hungarian students, most working for the summer ~ all very efficient and professional, a testament to the Maitre-d, Monika, who was without a doubt, beyond efficient! Hats off to all of them!
The property has also introduced many banquet rooms, much to the delight of brides-to-be! The Spa, although we didn't try it, had many options for just about every budget. There were both indoor and outdoor pools, a well appointed exercise room and a hot-tub. Being a key location for walking and hiking, the lounge offered an afternoon tea/meal daily, which attracted lots of walkers and ramblers. By early eveing, once all had cleared off, it allowed the residents to enjoy a pre-dinner drink - those windows and those views as a back-drop was unforgettable!

Overall, this is an outstanding classic hotel that been here since the 1800's. If you think you're checking in to a Hilton or Ritz-Carlton, book somewhere else ~ you'll post a negative review thinking that this hotel is coming up short in your expectations. There is a road right out front of the building - there is traffic on that road, thus roadnoise; It was built in the 1800's - the floors creak; not every room has a fridge/iron and ironing board/safe - that's the simple beauty of it all. If you're the type of person who can appreciate everything the Lodore can offer you from the 5 star meals, location, view, history and overall positive feel that things are being run correctly from Management down...make a booking and be prepared to enjoy all that it has to offer! We'll see you there in 2014!

Room Tip: Rooms with a lake view will leave you never wanting to leave the room - but if you're a light sl...

Dead flies on the window, menu half erased, burger too cooked, you are given only 1 sugar sachet. The service is rushed and no smile. What a shame, the hotel is well situated with a spa; an outside jacuzzi by the waterfall.

The location firstly is stunning, it is really worth going just for a drink or walk in the area as you are located directly next to the lake ( derwent ) between two valleys, so you have the rolling hillsides either side of you. The hotel itself is lovely, it really has a feel of a stately home rather than a hotel. It really does have a feel of grandeur about it. As we were staying on a deal that included an evening meal, afternoon tea and breakfast i did worry about the food, as normally deals will skim on the food. However the food was amazing, and great portion sizes, the evening meal which again is billed as a set menu still had a number of lovely choices. The only disappointment for me was the spa. To say the hotel is so grand, the spa is not, only consisting of a small swimming pool and a small sauna. It is a great shame as the whole spa looks very cheap, and the only plus point is there is an outdoor hot-tub, however when we got to the spa there was no one there but yet we were not allowed to use it as it had to be booked (which up until you go the spa you are not informed of) so we were told we could use it 3 hours later even though the next people booked in where some 40 minutes later? anyone who has been in a hot tub knows you only need 10 minutes in there? However we did not let this minor thing spoil what is a fantastic setting and a great hotel and stay.

I was allocated a lovely room overlooking the stream and given a nice spot in the restaurant for my 3 night stay. The staff were friendly and very attentive even when they were clearly very busy. I stayed here a few years ago and what struck me the most was the food, it was much improved from the last time and it was good then ! The presention was a feast for the eyes and the taste matched. My terrior was also made to feel very welcome with a bed and snuggly pillow and food and water bowl. I miss curling up in one of the comfy chairs next to the fire reading my book, or going for a swim and sauna. I would definately reccomend this Hotel

Room Tip: 209 overlooking the stream and tennis court

Recently booked this Venue for my Daughters wedding, at first it seemed the ideal place nice setting and everything looked good, however on the day the Wedding Breakfast the first two courses were served efficiently then the staff seemed to disappear for sometime and we were left sitting waiting, there was no staff around in the room ( usually someone is monitoring service ) then the coffee ant tea took even longer. However the Evening Buffet was even worse and actually managed to run out off food in the room even though there was fewer numbers attended than we booked for there was still atleast a dozen people ( myself and my wife included ) who were confronted with an empty table, the one person serving offered to go and get some more sandwiches made and duly disappeared after a few minutes several people waiting gave up and returned to the function room never to come back she finally returned with a plate containing approx 7 sandwiches and another with a few slices of ham on and that was it. I have never been to a buffet ever been to a Buffet and they have ran out off food !!!.
On returning home my wife received the usual E-Mail saying thanks for your booking etc from the Manager to which she complained about the Buffet shortfalls, Two weeks later and no reply so it is obvious they do not care and once you have paid up front and they have your money they are not bothered.

Many thanks for taking the time to review our beautiful Lodore Falls Hotel on this site.

I can confirm that my deputy manager replied to your e mail on 30th August as follows:

Dear xxxxx

I would like to thank you for your Email, following the wedding of your daughter at The Lodore Falls and the positive comments regarding the accommodation, ambience, and friendliness of our staff.

I do very much regret that you felt less than happy with some aspects of our buffet service in the evening. I have spoken to our head chef, who assured me that the appropriate amount of food, in relation to what was ordered, was put out. Having also spoken to Jeanette, our duty manager, I understand that there was still plenty of choice (kebabs, roast beef, salads and desserts) available. I was pleased to learn that the small shortfall of sandwiches was quickly resolved.

I hope that we may have the pleasure of welcoming you to The Lodore Falls in the future.

Yours sincerely,

Hans Bonkenburg
Deputy Manager

I would be pleased to discuss the matter further and can be contacted on 017687 77285 or stephen@lodorefallshotel.co.uk.
