I was allocated a lovely room overlooking the stream and given a nice spot in the restaurant for my 3 night stay. The staff were friendly and very attentive even when they were clearly very busy. I stayed here a few years ago and what struck me the most was the food, it was much improved from the last time and it was good then ! The presention was a feast for the eyes and the taste matched. My terrior was also made to feel very welcome with a bed and snuggly pillow and food and water bowl. I miss curling up in one of the comfy chairs next to the fire reading my book, or going for a swim and sauna. I would definately reccomend this Hotel

Room Tip: 209 overlooking the stream and tennis court

Recently booked this Venue for my Daughters wedding, at first it seemed the ideal place nice setting and everything looked good, however on the day the Wedding Breakfast the first two courses were served efficiently then the staff seemed to disappear for sometime and we were left sitting waiting, there was no staff around in the room ( usually someone is monitoring service ) then the coffee ant tea took even longer. However the Evening Buffet was even worse and actually managed to run out off food in the room even though there was fewer numbers attended than we booked for there was still atleast a dozen people ( myself and my wife included ) who were confronted with an empty table, the one person serving offered to go and get some more sandwiches made and duly disappeared after a few minutes several people waiting gave up and returned to the function room never to come back she finally returned with a plate containing approx 7 sandwiches and another with a few slices of ham on and that was it. I have never been to a buffet ever been to a Buffet and they have ran out off food !!!.
On returning home my wife received the usual E-Mail saying thanks for your booking etc from the Manager to which she complained about the Buffet shortfalls, Two weeks later and no reply so it is obvious they do not care and once you have paid up front and they have your money they are not bothered.

Many thanks for taking the time to review our beautiful Lodore Falls Hotel on this site.

I can confirm that my deputy manager replied to your e mail on 30th August as follows:

Dear xxxxx

I would like to thank you for your Email, following the wedding of your daughter at The Lodore Falls and the positive comments regarding the accommodation, ambience, and friendliness of our staff.

I do very much regret that you felt less than happy with some aspects of our buffet service in the evening. I have spoken to our head chef, who assured me that the appropriate amount of food, in relation to what was ordered, was put out. Having also spoken to Jeanette, our duty manager, I understand that there was still plenty of choice (kebabs, roast beef, salads and desserts) available. I was pleased to learn that the small shortfall of sandwiches was quickly resolved.

I hope that we may have the pleasure of welcoming you to The Lodore Falls in the future.

Yours sincerely,

Hans Bonkenburg
Deputy Manager

I would be pleased to discuss the matter further and can be contacted on 017687 77285 or stephen@lodorefallshotel.co.uk.

All I can do is echo the praise from previous reviewers. This is an excellent hotel mainly because of the staff who were faultless during our 3 night stay over a very busy period. Credit must also go to the trainers and supervisors -well done. The food was so good and came exactly as ordered. No mobile phone reception which was not a problem for us but maybe to some. 100%recommendation from us.

Just attended a large family gathering for my nieces wedding , a great venue well appointed with nice gardens and view. The day was only soured by the rude and arrogant manner displayed by one of the management 'Hans' our initial meeting and first experience of the hotel was this man demanding quite rudely a word with the groom in front of guests very unprofessional and set the tone for the afternoon. We had several more run ins with his attitude as did other attendees. It was so bad at one stage I had a meeting with the hotel manager who introduced himself as Steven again not the most professional person I have had dealings with but at least I got my point across however I feel it fell on deaf ears. To summarise great hotel great location staff need training in manners.

Dear Meacey

I do think it very unfair of you to put this "review" on here as it is your personal view of a valued staff member rather than a balanced review of the hotel and it's services.

What I can say in defence of my colleague is that the bride specifically requested that Hans run her wedding and she has subsequently been most complementary about the food and service offered on the day.

Am middle of three night stay at The Lodore Falls hotel and am extremely satisfied so much that I am writing review before I go! Spot on location with amazing lake and fell views even through the mist and rain!! Fantastic food couldn't fault any course and certainly couldn't eat anymore! The lamb done three ways was particularly memorable! Now for the service- they do have a lot of foreign staff but I can honestly say that they couldn't have been more helpful or efficient. No one seemed to need to be told what to do they all just worked like clock work! Other pluses- hotel extremely clean, very comfortable public areas a pleasure to sit in and watch the changing weather or just people watch and there are plenty of customers! Also dog friendly!! All in all its been a great break and myself and the dog will definitely return.

Room Tip: Pay extra for lake view you will not be disappointed!

What an enchanting location for this lovely hotel! Beautiful garden forest walks reveal the stunning Lodore Falls. For the less energetic, there is a choice of swimming in the outdoor pool or lazing in the hot tub. Delicious afternoon tea can be taken outside or inside in the lounge area. Our upgraded room had a further upgrade to a duplex in the tower, offering views over Derwentwater, making this a memorable choice for our silver wedding anniversary. We had a leisurely swim in the pleasant indoor leisure facility. Our four course dinner was excellent and the service was friendly and efficient. After a good breakfast we crossed over the road and headed for the nearby footpath round the beautiful lake, making the most of a sunny late summer morning.

Room Tip: Our room was one of the best in the hotel with gorgeous views over Derwentwater. However as acces...

This really is an excellent hotel. Quite traditional in its décor, it is nevertheless entirely consistent with modern standards of comfort and facilities. We were especially struck by the quality of the service; the staff are attentive without being obtrusive and friendly whilst maintaining sufficient professional distance. They appear to work as a cohesive team, and a request made to one person would clearly be picked up by another, with nothing allowed to slip between shifts.

We had a second floor room with lake view, and that view is truly stunning. The bed was very comfortable, and for once we had enough hanging and storage space in a hotel wardrobe. The dinner menu has no a la carte, but several standard choices plus 3 specials which change daily. The standard of cooking was high - not haute cuisine, maybe, but freshly and imaginatively prepared using local ingredients. I'd recommend the lamb cooked three ways, and the venison; My wife also enjoyed the sea bass. The wine list is well chosen, with the lowest priced wine at 19.99 being entirely acceptable, and a number of very good half bottles, and a selection by the glass too. Also - be there on Thursday, pudding club night - but I'd advise a modest main course to leave room!

Although a large hotel, it is very peaceful and we slept well. It is true to say, as other reviewers have mentioned, that a small B road does pass outside the hotel, and this is not apparent from the publicity photographs. There is a small amount of traffic noise as a result, but this diminishes in the evening, there is no noise overnight, and it caused no disturbance to us. However, those who find even a small amount of traffic noise distracting might note that between about 4 pm and 6 pm there does seem to be a bit of a mini Lakeland rush hour, presumably with people heading back to their various accommodations after a day exploring Borrowdale. Having crossed the road, though, you are on the shores of Derwentwater, and the launch - roughly every hour - takes you to Keswick, and round the lake - we had a smashing trip in the September sunshine. Keswick itself is a super little town, and the lakeside area, with its boats and landing stages, and scenic walks easily detained us for most of one day. The main tourist attractions - Dove Cottage, Hill Top etc - are all within 40 - 60 minutes driving time, although watch out for a bit of congestion in Ambleside, which you can't avoid if you're headed south.

I have only one other small criticism, which is that the quality of the WIFI is poor - the signal is intermittent, and weak. These days, the availability of WIFI is not a marginal "nice to have", as many of us now live our lives using tablets and smartphones - I read my paper in the morning on it, I plan my days driving on it and, most important, I keep my business running while away on holiday (it's what allows me to actually have time to go on holiday!!). The lack of a mobile phone signal I realise is beyond the control of the hotel, but the provision of plenty of routers to enable strong WIFI can be achieved with modest investment.

This one concern does not detract from the overall excellence of Lodore Falls, and I would like to congratulate the management and their excellent staff on providing a haven of relaxed luxury in this beautiful part of the world.
