“Envigorating few days with superb food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 13, 2013

Our four night break here on the shores of Derwentwater was revitalising. We enjoyed five sunny if chilly walks followed by relaxing swims and saunas. The evening meals, equally, were high points of the days with delicious food. Our room overlooked the lake allowing us to admire the setting sun from our bed. There was a bustling, cheerful atmosphere and excellent attention to detail from the staff. The location is perfect.

This is a very comfortable hotel in a superb location by the shores of Derwentwater. First impressions are that it has obviously benefitted from a recent make over. Blazing fires in the lounge areas add to the aura of cosiness and comfort. All the staff were friendly and attentive, so it's easy to feel at home here.
Our bedroom was not over-large but was spotless, well appointed and, again, very comfortable. The bathroom was impressive, with a good sized bath to relax in. However, the shower was disappointing as the water did little more than trickle from it.
Our food at breakfast and dinner was plentiful and perfectly acceptable. However, it lacked the individuality and finesse that would have lifted it into the excellent category. Also, the the dining room had a few too many tables and so gave a slightly cramped impression.
Despite these few niggles, we really enjoyed our stay and would certainly return.

An excellent hotel at the foot of Borrowdale. Lodore falls really has it all...good food, staff and leisure. Rooms are very comfortable and the hotel is also very spacious. The surrounding area alows for great canoeing, walking and cycling.

Room Tip: You basically pay extra for the rooms with a `view'

We arrived early Friday morning and was greeted warmly by reception staff. The room we were allocated was simply stunning with a view of the lake. Spotlessly clean and very luxurious. The spa was great and treatments perfect (although a bit pricey). We used the pool and sauna and the hot tub (which must be booked). All the areas are very well maintained. Tennis courts must be booked in advance. The breakfast was amazing. We ate in the restaurant on the saturday night. The food was good but service could have been better...my meal arrived twice and was wrong so they took it away twice but left my husbands which meant we ate our main meal seperately. The lounge areas are huge with ample comfy seating and newspapers. Service in the bar was great...we spent all Friday night there and had sandwiches again which were delicious (snacks finish at five but feel it would be better to serve them till six). The receptionist was extremely helpful. We will definately go back...a fantastic weekend.

Room Tip: Ask for a lake view

We booked the hotel via a Travel Zoo offer. The deal was tea and scones on arrival and two nights dinner bed and breakfast. The hotel is in a magnificent location on the shore of Derwent Water with plenty of facilities including two pools (one indoor and the other outdoor) squash and tennis courts, a small gym and a health spa. Check in was an absolute dream and the welcome and friendliness of staff prevailed throughout our stay. We booked a standard room and were not disappointed. It was well appointed and spotlessly clean (even passing the “I bet I can find a bit of mould in the bathroom” test). The restaurant has a “casual but smart” dress code. The table d'hôte menu was excellent on both nights; offering a range of locally sourced dishes. Service was excellent. It was so good to be served breakfast (apart from the usual buffet cereals, fruits etc) and there was a good choice of options. Bar prices were reasonable and a couple of real ales were on offer. There is so much to do and see within a few miles of the hotel from a leisurely stroll around Derwent water to a ramble up Cat Bells and don’t forget the Lodore Falls are only a few hundred yards behind the hotel. The stay would have been absolutely perfect had it not been for a boiler breakdown on our second evening. The problem was handled well by management but the lack of heat/hot water/a shower was, nevertheless, a significant inconvenience. I am sure that the boiler breakdown was a one-off and don’t let it deter you from sampling this wonderful hotel.

We returned home yesterday following a thoroughly enjoyable 2 night stay at Lodore Falls to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. On arrival we were greeted by the hotel receptionist Gabi who was very professional and made us feel really welcome. We were delighted to find that we had been upgraded not once but twice to a suite with a beautiful lake view, The Catbells Suite. When we entered our room we found a box of chocolates and a card wishing us a happy anniversary we thought this was a nice touch. The suite was spacious, we had our own living room with L shaped couch, electric fire and wall mounted TV. We also had a TV in the bedroom along with an ipod docking station which unfortunately kept going on and off, I phoned reception who advised that the maintenance staff had left for the day but somebody would come to the room to have a look. The docking station could not be fixed but the member of staff Damien offered to borrow us his own speakers for the duration of our stay. We were very grateful and thought this was excellent service! 4 course dinner and breakfast were included in our stay, both were excellent value the service was great and staff very accommodating, professional and polite. After dinner we enjoyed relaxing with a drink (single malt very reasonably priced) by the real fire round the corner from the restaurant. A huge thank you to the staff at Lodore Falls for making our first wedding anniversary a memorable one, I could go on.. :)

Room Tip: Lake View!

visited with friends March 22 room overlooking lake - not a very big room but more than adequately furnished. Hotel staff excellent with special mention for Jake in the bar who was most friendly and attentive. Food in restaurant perhaps the best we have experienced in a hotel of this type. Did not visit Spa so cannot comment. Only negatives were noisy floorboards, but excusable given age of hotel, and the fact that dogs were allowed which may be a problem if you have an allergy. Otherwise cannot fault the hotel would visit again. The hotel is about 3 miles outside Keswick if you like a good walk, otherwise a bus service about once an hour and a ferry (very small boat ) around the lake to various points £9.50 pp I think.
