Just returning from our second visit to this hotel. If you are looking for impeccable service, wonderful food and old world charm this is for you. A total gem.
It was nice to see familiar faces among the staff and says a lot for a company that expects such high standards and is able to retain its staff year in/ out.

I booked a weekend deal at this hotel via the Groupon website. We were warmly welcomed and given an afternoon tea of scones, cream and tea/coffee when we arrived. The bar area is very cozy with lots of armchairs and settees. I found the staff to be excellant, very courteous and keen to help. There is free internet access in the hotel and the bar is the best place to get a good signal.
We ate at the hotel on one of the nights as part of 'our deal' and the food was of excellant quality, as was the breakfast each morning of our stay. We had a good look around the hotel but did not use any of the facilities as we were 'out and about' alot. If you think you may want to use any of the beauty treatments or massages at the hotel you need to book in advance - well worth considering as it is reasonably priced.

Room Tip: We had a room at the front of the hotel overlooking the lake

The hotel presents well on the website but in reality is very poor. We were on the third floor with 3 adults & a baby staying in the so called 'penthouse' suite. The only acess is via a lift only big enough for one adult and baggage, the pushchair couldn't fit into the lift open let alone with an accompanying adult. Has anyone in this hotel heard of the disabled?
The room is tired both in need of modernisation and more thorough clean, particularly the bathroom. The restaurant symbolises the flattery, it looks good but the food and service is very poor. There is an abundance of staff but very few are trained, responsive or have English as their first language. The meal at £36 per head was poor, I asked for my beef to be cooked medium rare, on one side it was still mooing and on the other was well done, how is this possible? My wife had tuna which both brown/grey and inedible and clearly re-heated.
The hotel appears to rely a lot on elderly repeat business, my advice is there is a bigger and better world out there, go and experience and for less money.

Room Tip: I don't have anything constructive to add

LodoreGM, General Manager at Lodore Falls Hotel, responded to this review, October 11, 2011
It's such a shame that I'm not able to include photos in this response as I can say without fear of contradiction that the Penthouse Suite, here at the wonderful Lodore Falls Hotel is one of the finest rooms, with THE finest view in the whole of the Lake District.
The capacity of our lift is listed at 4 persons or 300kg, to prove this point I've just been in the lift with my assistant manager and two waiters, we were accommodated comfortably. With regard pushchairs and other items of luggage, we do have a team of willing porters on hand to deliver such objects to your room or indeed out to your car. One of my team remembers assisting you with the lift door whilst taking your luggage out of the hotel and offering to help with the bags.

We do cater for disabled visitors and even provide a specially designed wheelchair which fits perfectly into our bijou lift.

My restaurant manager advises me that she did enquire at your table as to whether you were enjoying your evening meal and the reply was most certainly positive. In the Lake View Restaurant all staff try their hardest to ensure guest comfort and we would have been only too pleased to have replaced your meals had we been made aware of your displeasure. I can assure you that the tuna was fresh in that day and cooked to order, why would anyone wish to re-heat such a flavorsome piece of fish? Certainly not the chefs hear at Lodore.

I am incredibly proud of each and every one of my staff, regardless of their "first language" and take exception to your assertion that few of them are trained, as this just isn't the case as so many reviews on this site clearly testify.

The weird thing is that we do have a huge number of loyal guests, not all of whom are elderly, who visit the hotel on a regular basis, it really is a great shame that you will not be joining them again in the future.

Kind regards

Stephen Johnson

Years ago my wife and I trudged past this place in the pouring rain on our way to some grim youth hostel further up Borrowdale. We agreed that one day we'd stay there - poor students with modest aspirations - but when we saw the Travelzoo offer we couldn't resist booking. Now this is a hotel that really knows its customers - it caters for a mature crowd but really does do it with style and quality. The ground floor bar and lounges are comfortable and relaxed without the over-styled modernism that bedevils so many hotels these days. But it's really the bedrooms that are the major plus. We had an upgrade to a "fell view" room - third floor towards the back of the hotel - and it was all you could possibly need. Recently refurbished, comfortable beds, large bath and space to sit and ponder the surroundings - all you could want really. The food in the restaurant was uniformally excellent with a top notch maitre d' and the usual efficient, friendly service you receive from Eastern European staff. Hard to fault really - the lift is erm "characterful" - but the setting and the service is excellent. A short walk takes you on to the round lake walk and you can always get a boat back if you don't fancy doing the complete round. Perhaps a little old-fashioned for some people, but for those who seek relaxing surroundings with an unobtrusive customer service style then this is hard to beat. We'll definitely be back.

I booked this trip for my 20 year old daughter and myself from a travelzoo offer, it proved to be an excellent choice.

The Hotel is in a stunning location overlooking derwentwater, and we were lucky enough to have warm and sunny weather. We received a warm welcome and enjoyed excellent hospitality, first class service and top quality restaurant meals, it was fantastic to have a full vegetarian menu to choice from in addition to the main menu.

The hotel has superb facilities and we enjoyed a relaxing 30 minutes in the outdoor hot tub, set amongst a backdrop of the forest and the waterfall.

We will be back to enjoy another stay next year and have recommended this hotel highly to family and friends.

This is the second Travel Zoo break we have taken to Lodore this year and would not hesitate to stay again as the location is wonderful, food very good - a memorable flambe banana- and the staff by and large friendly and helpful. Our only problem was two issues not of our doing with the reception staff but this was sorted out.
Paid extra for a lake room which was well worth it as we did not find the traffic a problem and loved the view. Porter was on hand to take up our luggage, the lift is small but not a problem.
My only other comment would be that I would expect a hotel of this standard to have jacket and tie dress code for men in the dining room, my husband was the only one to wear a jacket to dinner. I am sure this was the code on our previous stay and also gave the ladies an excuse to dress up a bit. We are walkers so not adverse to casual clothes, please dont dum down Lodore !

Room Tip: I think lake view room is worth the extra, we had two comfortable chairs and small table in the wind...

We visited the Lodore Falls Hotel for three days this past September. We paid for a room with a Lake View, which I highly recommend. The view was stunning. The hotel is set in a stunning setting and the hike up the falls in behind the hotel is well worth it. If you can make it to the top the forest above is gorgeous. Each day we enjoyed the complete and very filling breakfast and at night the ambiance of the hotel was wonderful. When we booked we mentioned our 6-year-old daughter would be staying with us in our room. The hotel had already placed an extra bed just for her when we arrived. Overall, a great experience and we cannot wait to return.

Room Tip: Ask for a Lake View room. They cost a bit more, but it's worth it.
