“Great stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2011

Years ago my wife and I trudged past this place in the pouring rain on our way to some grim youth hostel further up Borrowdale. We agreed that one day we'd stay there - poor students with modest aspirations - but when we saw the Travelzoo offer we couldn't resist booking. Now this is a hotel that really knows its customers - it caters for a mature crowd but really does do it with style and quality. The ground floor bar and lounges are comfortable and relaxed without the over-styled modernism that bedevils so many hotels these days. But it's really the bedrooms that are the major plus. We had an upgrade to a "fell view" room - third floor towards the back of the hotel - and it was all you could possibly need. Recently refurbished, comfortable beds, large bath and space to sit and ponder the surroundings - all you could want really. The food in the restaurant was uniformally excellent with a top notch maitre d' and the usual efficient, friendly service you receive from Eastern European staff. Hard to fault really - the lift is erm "characterful" - but the setting and the service is excellent. A short walk takes you on to the round lake walk and you can always get a boat back if you don't fancy doing the complete round. Perhaps a little old-fashioned for some people, but for those who seek relaxing surroundings with an unobtrusive customer service style then this is hard to beat. We'll definitely be back.

I booked this trip for my 20 year old daughter and myself from a travelzoo offer, it proved to be an excellent choice.

The Hotel is in a stunning location overlooking derwentwater, and we were lucky enough to have warm and sunny weather. We received a warm welcome and enjoyed excellent hospitality, first class service and top quality restaurant meals, it was fantastic to have a full vegetarian menu to choice from in addition to the main menu.

The hotel has superb facilities and we enjoyed a relaxing 30 minutes in the outdoor hot tub, set amongst a backdrop of the forest and the waterfall.

We will be back to enjoy another stay next year and have recommended this hotel highly to family and friends.

This is the second Travel Zoo break we have taken to Lodore this year and would not hesitate to stay again as the location is wonderful, food very good - a memorable flambe banana- and the staff by and large friendly and helpful. Our only problem was two issues not of our doing with the reception staff but this was sorted out.
Paid extra for a lake room which was well worth it as we did not find the traffic a problem and loved the view. Porter was on hand to take up our luggage, the lift is small but not a problem.
My only other comment would be that I would expect a hotel of this standard to have jacket and tie dress code for men in the dining room, my husband was the only one to wear a jacket to dinner. I am sure this was the code on our previous stay and also gave the ladies an excuse to dress up a bit. We are walkers so not adverse to casual clothes, please dont dum down Lodore !

Room Tip: I think lake view room is worth the extra, we had two comfortable chairs and small table in the wind...

We visited the Lodore Falls Hotel for three days this past September. We paid for a room with a Lake View, which I highly recommend. The view was stunning. The hotel is set in a stunning setting and the hike up the falls in behind the hotel is well worth it. If you can make it to the top the forest above is gorgeous. Each day we enjoyed the complete and very filling breakfast and at night the ambiance of the hotel was wonderful. When we booked we mentioned our 6-year-old daughter would be staying with us in our room. The hotel had already placed an extra bed just for her when we arrived. Overall, a great experience and we cannot wait to return.

Room Tip: Ask for a Lake View room. They cost a bit more, but it's worth it.

We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights as part of a Travelzoo deal. This is without doubt the best hotel that we have been to in Cumbria. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly offering exceptional standards of service. The food in the restaurant was of the highest quality and the portion sizes were generous.
If you are to stay at this hotel do spend a bit extra and book a lake view room as it is well worth it.
Contrary to the previous review, we were offered a porter to take our bags to the room, the lift managed to take 2 adults and luggage and we booked the Hot Tub about 15 minutes before getting into it.
The hotel and staff are a credit to the management team and if you are visiting the area, have no hesitation in booking here.

This is the most incredible review I've ever seen and I do question whether the author is a genuine Lodore customer. Unfortunately the lack of detail in the review makes it very difficult for me to respond to any of the "issues" raised.

If the reviewer is genuine I would be grateful if they would contact me on 017687 77285 or stephen@lodorefallshotel.co.uk as I would really like to get to the bottom of why this review is so very much out of step with the huge majority of other reviews on this site.

The review entitled "The Benchmark For Cumbrian Hospitality" directly above this one is far in keeping with warmth normally felt for this wonderful hotel.

Kind regards

We stayed for 2 nights on a travelzoo deal. The discounted rate was appropriate for this shambles of a hotel.
Meal time is a joke with minimal choice and staff that are largely incompetent.
After a long day getting to the hotel, we were expecting the concierge service we had been promised- I don't know where they were but we had to carry our own luggage up 3 flights if stairs as the 'lift' is barely big enough for 1 person let alone luggage aswell.
We were also looking forwards to the hot tub to relax, but you have to book a time slot!! So that didn't happen either.
The bar staff charge for things you haven't had even though you are stood there watching them.
This us an awful hotel where 'customer service' is a foreign concept!

On arrival the location of the room wasn't great but the hotel did there best to try and relocate our room. It overlooked an old roof but the room did have a balcony! The waiters in the restaurant were unbelievable, friendly, prompt and always happy to help! The room was clean and everything was in working order! The fires in the quiet area were great especially after a hard days walking! If you visit the hotel book in the hot tub, the views from there are amazing! All in all a great hotel which allows you to relax without any hassle! Will definitely be going back
