Great meal here on our coast to coast trek. Fish and chips (haddock) was massive and could've been enough for two. No room for a pud. Good beer too.

We stayed here in April for three nights. There is a small carpark opposite the pub for resident guests and diners only. The pub is located in an 'out of the way' location at the bottom end of Borrowdale. There is a good sized lounge for guests and a separate dining room for accommodation guests as well as other diners. It is possible to eat in the dining room or have a bar meal in the separate bar area. In wet weather you leave your muddy boots in the entrance hall and your wet gear can go in the first floor drying room.
We had room 2 which faced the car park but there was still a view of the mountain. The room was pleasant and clean with a good sized bed. The wardrobe hanging rail was oddly fixed front to the back instead of the usual left to right sides and so hanging clothes was limited and there were no shelves to lay clothes on. There was not enough drawer space for clothes but as we were staying for only three nights we did not mind too much and left some of our gear in our bags.
The breakfasts and evening meals were very good with efficient service. There is a varied menu with a 'specials' board. The restaurant window looks out onto the meadows of Borrowdale and also the Langstrath valley. In summer there is a campsite nearby and if campers are expecting a cheap meal they will be disappointed.
Between the pub and the car park is a small area which had tables & seats for enjoying a drink in the sunshine- yes it does shine in Borrowdale more than twice a year!
The landlord looks after his beer very well and Keswick gold is recommended.

We visited this lovely country restaurant on Saturday afternoon for lunch and after passing the sign for this place many times and not bothering to turn off the road and visit I can promise you I wont be doing that again. This is a really nice place with nice friendly staff and very delicious food it's not the cheapest place I've ever eaten nor is it the most expensive but it's absolutely worth dropping in you wont regret it and I can recommend the potted shrimp starter highly .
