“Friendly Hotel, great food”
Reviewed August 7, 2013

The welcome we had was one of the best I've ever had anywhere. We had two dogs and there was no stress involved with this trip. We were able to eat both nights in the bar, with the dogs and the food was excellent and very reasonably priced. The house was beautiful and had many interesting pieces of furniture. The garden could do with some weeding but the price of the rooms reflect that the house and gardens are not perfect. One suggestion is that the remotes need their batteries changing.

Could have been so much more but it seemed more like an old house that had been stuffed with whatever could be found at the local sale room. We weren't advised to book a table for a meal when we arrived so we needed to eat quickly in order to free up the table which had been reserved. Obtrusive music in the bar didn't make for a relaxing meal anyway. Somewhat amusing to find that although there is mention of local ingredients, pride of place on the breakfast menu went to the "Heinz Baked Beans" which was mentioned specifically rather than who the local producer was of the sausages etc. We were in a room which was in an add on extension to the main house and the walls were thin enough that we could hear the conversation of the people in the next room. Tacky label by some company on the wall in the bathroom which was out of place. The cloakroom off the breakfast room had seen better days and in one of the cublicles the vinyl flooring is rucked up and needs replaced. Either that or the flooring is giving way below as I thought I was going to fall through the floor. The actual bedroom was pleasant although had wallpaper missing beside the bed. Personally I find carpet in a bathroom unhygienic. The cracked sink needed replacing. Disappointing overall.

Our one night stay at this hotel was a totally unplanned, last minute stay but oh my God will we be back! We were welcomed so effusively (and continued to be very well looked after by all of the staff) and were upgraded to a four poster room at no extra cost (£60 for B&B for two people!). The room was lovely with a clean bathroom with a lovely hot shower. The rustic beer garden was so nice to sit and have a drink in and listen to the river, the breeze in the trees and the birds.
The food was great, in particular our evening meal - huuuge portions and really good value for money.
We will definitely be back to do some walking and we were delighted that dogs are welcome to stay here too.

On arrival greeted by reception who are very friendly, if not a little to over the top! The bedroom we stayed in was quite basic, there was a need for it to be painted and in general freshened up. We overlooked the courtyard at the rear where we had the delight of seeing the cook/staff fagging it all day. As a keen cyclist with friends I couldnt complain about the lcoation but i was disheartened by the hall. The lawns were 4 ft high with grass, totally uncut. There were weeds were there should be hanging baskets and the whole place needs a make over - the hotel inspector would have a field day! This is far from a country house, mpre like a large b&b. The food was very good and made up somewhat for the rest. In all a shame.......it could be so much more. Not enough staff, run on a shoestring.

Room Tip: Avoid it ! cant even open youyr windows due to the midges

We have often stopped off here for a sandwich or a beer going to/from the Lakes and have thought it would be great place to stay in the winter. We were going to Potfest in Penrith and had a 2 night stop. We thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to coming again. The staff were all brilliant and we enjoyed our meal in the bar. The Hall is very atmospheric ,if a little tired ,but they are charging for tired rather than fully refreshed so no problems with that. Very popular with pushbikes doing the coast to coast and continental travellers.

Room Tip: 21 was good and a short walk to the car to bring your stuff in.

Just been for a short 3 night stay at Nent Hall, the hotel is a great place to relax, staff were fantastic, which made this stay even more enjoyable. I would definately recommend this hotel to friends and family. Ment to mention that the food is of a high standard. Great value and would love to go back.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade if available and in main part of hotel
