I stayed for just the one night (luckily) and the room was possibly the worst I have stayed in, Room 15. It appeared as tho the room was originally a single and converted to double with no thought whatsoever. Wardrobe appeared to be in the middle of the room, blocking most of the window. There had obviously been a tea/coffee shelf, which had been removed leaving a large siloutte of wallpaper, whereas the walls were painted. No bed side lamps and the kettle could only be plugged in on the bedside table. You had to climb over the bed to get to the wardrobe and TV as the bottom of the bed was too small to pass and even if you could, you would hit your head on the lamps sticking out of the wall. No full length mirror, suitcase rack pushed behind wardrobe, dirty worn out carpet and in general just a shabby room which would not meet 2 star standards let alone 3! I could go on as I know what standards are expected, but in a nutshell, there appeared to be no standards at all. Breakfast selection was very limited and sausages were typical frozen variety. Cooked items on offer were ok, buffet style.
Reception and checkin were rubbish. Wrong directions given to room and no offer of wake up call or newspaper. Would I stay here again....... never. I have since found out the hotel is up for sale at £2.5million. You would need to spend that again to make this hotel good again.

11 of us stayed on a midweek night and were spread out over 3 family rooms.

We phoned up to book the rooms and were able to negotiate very good prices once we established a rapport with the staff.

The car park is big and free.

The hotel itself is on a main road so is easy to find.

We were able to extend our check out time by two hours as we were slightly intoxicated!

We found all three rooms to be perfectly adequate and had no problems whatsoever with our stay.

We stayed at this hotel with a group visting Liverpool. Hotel 40 minutes from Liverpool and I will advise the company organising groups to consider Liverpool in future as this hotel too far and gives little choice of pubs and restaurants in walking distance.
The room was quite a good size with a four poster bed, but room difficult to find as there are a maize of corridors and signage is bad. We ended up on the back stairs used by staff. The wndows did not look like they had been cleaned in ages, the stationary including the room service menu looked like it had never been changed. The bathroom was okay, had a jacuzzi bath but the floor tiles were cracked and needed replacing. After a long journey a shower was required but there is only 1 small sachet of shampoo. it is a good job we had decided to pack some shampoo and shower gel.

Dinner was limited in choice and the soup was cold (no it was not meant to be a cold soup) so it was sent back. No better on second attempt but was eaten anyway.
Manin course was lasagne or turkey. One of the party had raw turkey meat but the lasagne was okay. Staff friendly and helpful and went out of their way to get icecream for the dessert instead of the cream that was offered.

Breakfast was a buffet and was fine, except they can not cope with toast. A request for hot water and lemon was evenutally dealt with although I felt that if I did not push I would have not got it. the staff at dinner had said this would not be a problem. Breakfast staff did not know about decaf coffee but eventually went to a bedroom to get some sachets.

Receptionist on duty in the morning did not even speak to us, just took the key. There was nothing to pay as we had not given them a credit card on arrival. Obviously chatting with the housekeeper more important than asking if we had enjoyed our stay etc.

The 2 positive things I can say are that the shower was excellant with plenty of hot water and the bed was comfortable and I slept well. Some of our party were disturbed by noise from a disco at the social club next door.

As most revues say, it is a bit dated, and warm. The breakfast was okay, lots of choice, staff were okay, but got knarked because we all drank in the Ford Social Club (next door) only £1.50 a pint. In fact they didn't even open the bar for the Saturday night as they assumed we would go next door, they were right!!
I took 49 people on a bus trip and used this hotel, no one had any bad complaints, so I would recomend it for a weekender.

I stayed here with my partner in a double room for one night early September.
On entering the hotel to check in the blonde receptionist carried on with her work head down and didn't acknowledge me for 5 mins, even though I was stood right in front of her!
The room was basic and clean although a little run down. It was alright for an over night stay.
Like most of the other reviews of the Hillcrest, the disco was so loud and noisey! We stayed on the second floor and could hear everything. Didn't get a good nights sleep.
The hotel charges £10 for breakfast which is ridiculous. Obviously didn't pay it.
All in all if you can get a different hotel even for a one night stay, see if you can find somewhere else before booking here!

we stayed here for one night and would have not stayed longer. The room had an unpleasant smell, the bathroom was mouldy and the bedding did not look particularly clean. In the morning there was no hot water and we waited three quarters of an hour to have a luke warm shower. On querying this when settling the bill the lack of water was disputed and they were very reluctant to make any kind of discount to the invoice. Not a pleasant stay in any way

We found The Hillcrest to be a very friendly and welcoming hotel in a nice area. The corridoor to the rooms was pretty hard to find .
The rooms was clean and comfortable with everything you need for a night's stay. The towel were a bit small but that happens in a lot of hotels these days . It could have done with a bit more lighting and a better welcome pack(just being picky). The breakfast was great value at £7 each and you could eat asmuch as you wanted, the only downside was the orange juice looking liquid ,which turned out to be an orange juice drink which was at best unpleasant. The staff were extremely helpfuland cheerful. We took the train into Liverpool from the local station(Widnes)and was £9.40 return for the two of us and it noly took 20 mins.
