“Living Social deal otherwise leave alone”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

We purchased a Living Social deal for one night's bed, breakfast and evening meal and at £59 it was a good deal but I wouldn't want to pay more for what we had.
First of all I must say that all the staff we encountered were polite and cheerful and engaged in conversation.
The hotel is quite large and tired although there was evidence of some modernisation ie. some new wooden bedroom doors and new lift buttons but our bedroom was lacking. Mildew and black gunge nestled at the bottom of the windows although they did open . The bathroom was hopeless as the doors were louvre slats and did not stay closed which was not conducive to a comfortable use of the w.c. as I was travelling with an elderly friend. Infact I resorted to using the public toilet near reception. The enamel on the bath was badly chipped and the shower was outdated and had the middle control handle missing. The sink taps were incredibly stiff and the bowl was dirty underneath, no I did not seek this out but was obvious when lying in the bath. Grim!
The restaurant in the evening was all but deserted and lacked any atmosphere. The table d'hote menu offered to us was not exciting nor generous in portions. Why oh why do restaurants not serve vegetables automatically with main meals? If I hadn't been feeling very tired I would have gone out for a take away after dinner.
Breakfast the following morning was as different again with an abundance of fresh fruit, cereals, pastries, dried fruit and juice followed by a "Full English".
I would stay here again if I felt convinced that my room had been refurbished and would not opt for the set menu but dined in the bar where prices and choice were reasonable.

Room Tip: The rooms on the front of the hotel face a busy and noisy main road.

Stayed one night used a living social voucher very quite location nothing to do walking distance you definitely need a car as the hotel is very quite and but food is good average on price. If you have children this is not an ideal choice ok for couples me and my husband travel from manchester so it was not to far to travel

Stayed here with my mum for one night, we got a deal including 3 course meal and one nights stay. Bargain! Would recommend this hotel for anyone. Receptionist was lovely very welcoming, we got upgraded to family room at no extra charge, had meal in restaurant all staff including managers were very friendly and welcoming nothing was too much bother. Beds were comfy and room was clean couldn't ask for more. Will be returning in the near future.

Room Tip: Don't read reviews go with open mind, you won't be disappointed.

Booked a family room for 2 nights for a wedding nearby. Staff very helpful on arrival and we were pleasantly surprised with our room. Two large sleigh beds in a very spacious room. Only gripes was the exceptionally small tv and the ov the bath shower. Would've expected a power shower but there was a very large corner bath. Breakfast had a generous variety and cooked breakfast was very tasty. Staff were by helpful in ordering taxis for our nights out. There is also a 24hr porter so we were able to get drinks at the bar when we arrived back from th wedding. Would definitely stay again.

Booked a midweek stay with a voucher deal site for £59 for two including 3 course meal and breakfast.
Room was upgraded for free on arrival.the room was basic, dont know what the basic room would have been like, clean enough but had very comfy bed.
Bar was quiet expensive but nice.
We were expecting the same menu as advertised on hotel website but were disapointed to be given a different menu that was not advertised anywhere else in hotel.the food was ok but nothing more than a pub meal.we had a bottle of wine included in our deal which was served with dinner which was not bad.
Breakfast was very average , with a lot of choice but could have been better.
Staff friendly and overall not a bad place.

Stayed here for two nights for a family event being held elsewhere.... The hotel is tired to say the least, I can say though for business purpose it would be absolutely fine, free wifi and comfortable rooms.
Sadly this seems to be the general impression around the area as well.....
