Reviewed September 13, 2012

We stayed at the Hillcrest Hotel for 4 nights from 3rd - 7th September with a coach party.
We had a pleasant large double room which was situated at the back of the hotel, hence no noise from the road! the bathroom was ok, the shower sometimes was just a mere trickle, water was always hot & nice white soft towels.
Food was very good, for breakfast you have a choice of cereals, dried & fresh fruits, croissants, jam, fruit juice etc,you can also help your self to a cooked breakfast, toast tea/coffee is served to you at your table. For the evening meal you have a choice of 3 starters,3 mains & 3 desserts which you order at breakfast time, the food is very well cooked & presented.
All members of the staff are 1st class, there's nothing they wouldn't do for you, they're very polite, friendly & helpful & yes we would stay there again.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear are quiet

What great staff they have at this hotel, I was impressed by the receptionist that greeted me on arrival and thought I should make a special note but every member of staff became special, breakfast was handled so professionally as there were no scrambled eggs on display I mention this to the lady looking after everyone and the chef overheard and said 'give me 2 minutes' and true to his word freshly made scrambled eggs appeared along with freshly made toast, whilst eating breakfast the manager approached and asked if everything was good.

Room comfortable and adequate for the price of £45 including breakfast.

There was a smell of paint but there was redecorating of the stairways taking place but they were ventilating as much as possible.

The management should be proud of their staff.

I will happily return.

The first night 3 am 2nd night 5am was woken by noisy neighbors coming in
the room was grubby through no fault of the staff they can not work miracles

Went to a wedding reception here recently and was not impressed. Drinks prices are extortionate, food was mediocre, hard plastic chairs covered with a nylon type shroud used for seating at the reception and were very uncomfortable. Same chairs used at the evening do too so a highly uncomfortable day that rendered 1 member of the family to bed for the next day with a bad back! Staff all stand at the back of the room watching you eat and then swoop on you presumably to get you out as quick as possible.

Dear Tripadvisor reviewer,

Thank you very much for the feedback from your experience at the weekend.

Your comments will be discussed with the relevent departmental managers and amendments made where required.

Regarding the staff standing at the back of room, this is a traditional / professional service style of banqueting food service, this is not designed to get you out as soon as possible, but to be available for guests whenever they are required.

Once again thank you for your comments,

Kind regards.

A very nice hotel

Planning our passage down the M6 and looking for a stopover, my wife and I spent the night at the Hillcrest Hotel, Widnes. This was our first visit although we had used the Corus group before.

We found this a very pleasant hotel. The service we received in the bar, reception and breakfast room was excellent. The food in the bar was first class although we had been disappointed to find the restaurant closed. The room was comfortable. We had a very nice and plentiful buffet breakfast. It would have been nice if the hotel had not run out of one of my favourite draught lagers. A bar without beer is a hotel without a bar. This is the only negative to be said about this hotel.

Thoroughly recommended. We will certainly use this hotel again.
