“Too Noisy”
Reviewed August 27, 2012

We stayed 2 nights on both nights it sounded that the lift was going up and down ALL night dont know what the noise was the lift was too far away to it be that
The first night 3 am 2nd night 5am was woken by noisy neighbors coming in
the room was grubby through no fault of the staff they can not work miracles
overall i think we may have had 3/4hrs sleep both nights
Would not stay there again
The staff were very friendly and helpful apart from the receptionist on the Sunday

Room Tip: Avoid room 49 awful Noise and very grubby

Went to a wedding reception here recently and was not impressed. Drinks prices are extortionate, food was mediocre, hard plastic chairs covered with a nylon type shroud used for seating at the reception and were very uncomfortable. Same chairs used at the evening do too so a highly uncomfortable day that rendered 1 member of the family to bed for the next day with a bad back! Staff all stand at the back of the room watching you eat and then swoop on you presumably to get you out as quick as possible.

Dear Tripadvisor reviewer,

Thank you very much for the feedback from your experience at the weekend.

Your comments will be discussed with the relevent departmental managers and amendments made where required.

Regarding the staff standing at the back of room, this is a traditional / professional service style of banqueting food service, this is not designed to get you out as soon as possible, but to be available for guests whenever they are required.

Once again thank you for your comments,

Kind regards.

A very nice hotel

Planning our passage down the M6 and looking for a stopover, my wife and I spent the night at the Hillcrest Hotel, Widnes. This was our first visit although we had used the Corus group before.

We found this a very pleasant hotel. The service we received in the bar, reception and breakfast room was excellent. The food in the bar was first class although we had been disappointed to find the restaurant closed. The room was comfortable. We had a very nice and plentiful buffet breakfast. It would have been nice if the hotel had not run out of one of my favourite draught lagers. A bar without beer is a hotel without a bar. This is the only negative to be said about this hotel.

Thoroughly recommended. We will certainly use this hotel again.

We had a mixture of cold cooked veg, undercooked hot veg, string in beef, unripe melon and considering we had ordered our meals in the morning the service was terribly slow. The staff were lovely but some not properly trained to lay the tables or remove empty plates. The lack of beer mats in the bar lead for dripping drinks. The decor could do with a little tlc. Would be good for just bed and breakfast.

Room Tip: Get one at the back but away from the conference room for a good night's sleep.

Dear Tripadvisor reviewer,

Thank you very much for the feedback, all customer feedback is appreciated to enable us to improve service levels within the Hotel.

I believe your comments were discussed with my Operations Manager on your first day at the Hotel and these were subsequently rectified for the remainder of your stay at the Hotel.

Regarding the quality of food and service standards of our team, we monitor feedback internally from all guests at the Hotel and on the occassion you stayed, the rest of the group gave an excellent score for service and professionalism of staff, and a good score for food quality. Food is a subjective matter therefore a lower score is expected.

Your comments regarding the Hotels food is not indicative of the standards we serve and this is illustrated in the previos tripadvisor comments.

Thank you again for your feedback however I feel your critisisms were discussed and dealt with at the time of your stay.

Kind regards,

Stayed for 3 nights

Food is amazing in both the bar & the restaurant

Breakfast was good just unfortunate they had run out of smoked salmon

Receptionist was welcoming at all times & all staff very helpful

Shower in bathroom could be updated

Bit noisy to sleep by main road so perhaps request a room not by main road

Bedroom is v.clean & perfect for my needs (single room)

Would definitely recommend as value for money

My husband and I booked in overnight as we had a family party. I booked last minute online and had a price of £55 for a superior room. The room was spacious and had a balcony attached to the window. We were unable to sit on it but could open for air. I did find the hotel were a little lacking in sufficent milk for teas and coffees. As we were going out I did not ask for more but staff were so polite and helpful; I am sure they would have recified if I had asked. The bed was very comfortable with lots of pillows. Normally, I have found there are 2 one each side on bed and one or two in wardrobe; here there were 2 each side of bed and two in the wardrobe, little things matter when you are away from home. The room was spotlessly clean and the hotel quiet, we had a good nights sleep. Well done, Hillcrest Hotel.

Room Tip: Book a superior room with a balcony, they are a little more but not much.
