We took two grandsons ( 10 & 7) for a different kind of treat. We were expecting something special for £15.95 family entrance, but far too many of hands-on exhibits were well past sell-by date and in desperate need of maintenance. Lighting was really poor for a lot of the hands-on instructions. Additional change of £1 per head for make-your-own rocket experiment extends to obligatory grown-up supervisor! Could not even take rockets home. 3D cinema wasn't showing. I'd have liked a better guide (I'd have expected to be looking towards Liverpool cathedrals/airport for example) to views from the observation deck, which was good.
Should have foregone the chemistry element (sic!) and taken them to Manchester Museum of Science and Industry - free entry. The kids, enjoyed and were stimulated by the puzzle deck even though materials were pretty basic.

Took our 12 year old with a Groupon voucher, which saved us some pennies! He initially enjoyed the hands on (those that worked) but was very disappointed by the workshop on electricity. He had already "done all this in school and the person presenting it didnt enthuse us! The 3d cinema wasn't working that day, we were told that it had broken down after a busy half term(this was the Sun). He did enjoy the puzzle room and would have spent all day there, apart from there were some missing pieces.Again the puzzle map upstairs had missing pieces which we searched for and didn't find! On the whole this is a good place, it just felt a little run down and unloved. Didn't eat in the cafe, enjoyed a picnic outside and the play area.

We decided to visit this attraction on a wet post bank holiday Tuesday as most of it was inside. Our 7 year old and 3 year old loved it as did us parents as it was very uncrowned despite being half term. No queues to try the interactive exhibits including the 3d cinema show. The many hands on exhibits had a fun theme whilst being educational. As a dad who would normally have rather stayed at home watching sky sports I happily spent 5 hours with my wife and the children. Even after that they did not want to leave. I think those who make comments about only spending a couple of hours there have not taken time to absorb the huge amount of info and exhibits displayed. This is a museum with a great balance of educational information and kiddies fun games. Something for adults and children. All the staff were friendly, informative and efficient. The food in the cafe was pretty good and we found this to be a very interesting day out. Good value aswell.

Okay, well maybe my kids pressed lots of buttons ... lots of interactive things ... went in on Bank Holiday weekend and it wasn't too busy. An extra £1 bought you into Rocket making and other activities.

The kids loved the interactiveness, and they asked lots of questions as result. I thought it was a good place to spend a couple of hours. Reception provide a rucksack with various things for the children to use on their investigations.

The nearby walks were good, there's a play area outside and a cafe on site. Plenty of parking and staff were friendly.

This isn't going to keep you busy for a whole day, but at £14.75 for a family ticket it's cheaper and more interesting than many other things.

Hi we visited the catalyst centre today. Great location by the river Mersey with good free parking , walking alongside the water , feeding the birds or the wonderful children's adventure play area with pic nick tables, all great sunny day activities. The planets workshop kept all entertained and was fun and fascinating about "electricity " the cafe was clean and decent value, the children loved the 4 floors of activities, many of which had clear instructions to read And follow. Making the puzzle map was a highlight as was the puzzle room.
