Widnes War Memorial stands in Victoria Park, It commemorates the serving men who lost their lives in the two world wars. The memorial consists of an obelisk in Portland stone on a plinth of York stone. It was unveiled in 1921, and more names were added in 1950 for those who fell in WW2.
It is a magnificent structure, the obelisk itself standing over 40ft high. it incorporates "symbolic imagery" and "richly detailed carvings",
Widnes is not a large town but this monument represents a magnificent testament to its fallen sons.

We visited Victoria Park recently and the War memorial.
This was very inspirational and spiritual experience, you cant help but think
of years gone by and the sacrifices made by previous generations.
A must if you are in the area, kept exceptionally well, very clean and tidy around the immediate area and most of the Park.

This War Memorial has stood in Victorial Park since 1921. It is well worth a visit while in this lovely quiet park. It commemorates soldiers killed in both the world wars.

Visited Victoria Park in Widnes where this War Memorial stands on the main pathway through the park.It was unveiled in 1921 and commemorates the men who lost their lives in the two world wars.
It is set in its own area and you can see it across the park as it stands tall with steps around the base.
If you are interested in history and monuments this is one to visit.
