“Bollywood Charity Event - Incredible service!”
Reviewed November 12, 2013

St Luke's Cheshire Hospice held a Bollywood event at Peckforton on 7th November to raise money for the charity, and we were blown away by the amazing, attentitive and thoughtful service we received.

The rooms were set up for us perfectly and nothing was too much trouble for the staff, all evening they met all of our needs and requirements and made sure the event ran smoothly. The table settings looked wonderful and the food was served promptly, was piping hot and they catered for people who had special dietary requirements.

Julie Kite who handled our booking was always on hand to answer any questions or last minute changes as so often happens with this sort of event. She was polite and attentive at every meeting and if it wasn't for her the event would not have been anywhere near as good.

On the evening of the event David and his team made sure everything was in the right place at the right time and kept us all up to date with the running times and was always on hand when we needed anything.

I would encourage anyone looking for a venue to hold an event in Cheshire to consider Peckforton and everyone at the hospice, patients, families, staff, volunteers and trustees thank them for helping us to raise in excess of £3,500.

Have always thought that the food and service at Peckforton Castle was great but a recent Bollywood event in aid of charity just confirmed this opinion! Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, room setting was cosy and inviting, tables looked amazing and the Indian food, prepared by the chef, was declared a winner!

Many, many thanks to all concerned!

Had a wonderful stay this weekend, beautiful castle an amazing place such a privilege to visit. The castle is decorated beautifully and surprisingly cosy and was lovely and warm. We booked diner and was impressed by the food and service. Overall the best hotel I have stayed in a long time well worth a visit and the wedding venue looked amazing. The breakfast was a little busy but did go at peak time on a Sunday morning. Can't wait to go back!!

In October our daughter was married at Peckforton Castle. When we arrived the night before we were greeted like long-lost friends at Reception, and our luggage and the wedding decorations were spirited away and our cars parked for us. We had a trial with Mango the Owl in the Chapel, followed by drinks in the Brasserie and a delicious meal in the Restaurant. Without exception, all members of staff were very sensitive, helpful and kind, and the decorations were in place before we went to bed.

On The Day, everything went like clockwork, despite some demanding guests, and it was remarkable how the staff managed to move the furniture from The Great Hall to the Hexagonal Room and back without me noticing!

The Bride and Bridesmaids’ hair and makeup were done beautifully by the Tranquility Spa, and MC Stephen orchestrated the whole day as well as calming me down! It was a magical wedding. THANK YOU.

Room Tip: A magical venue for a wedding

The novelty of staying in a castle wears off pretty fast. Everything about the hotel is very average, except the price. It was most definitely not the “captivating experience” the website promised and the rooms were far from “stunning”. It lacks atmosphere, the facilities are limited and customer service is non-existent. The services are so focused upon the weddings; the other guests are left neglected. For a special birthday celebration, it was a very disappointing experience and did not live up to the expectations I had from the website descriptions. I would not recommend it to anybody.

Booked in for a night as a birthday treat. Also booked the Land Rover experience which was great. Never had so much fun in a car doing 3 mph! Thanks Charles. What an amazing place, it feels like a National Trust property without the ropes and no entry signs! A lovely place to just wander and explore the many stone stair cases and impressive hidden rooms. Dinner in the Brasserie was lovely, Sirloin Steak was huge and cooked to perfection. The House Red was also spot on. Then onto the Wine Cellar bar... This has to be my favourite room in the whole castle.... just stunning. BUT completely empty. Now I didn't mind as we had the place to ourselves and had our own personal waiter for the evening. I don't think many people actually know where this bar is, (note for the management - a bit more marketing I think!)
Breakfast was very good, relaxed and un-rushed. Then outside to walk off breakfast and explore the grounds. It took all of 5 mins as staff car park is to the right and you can't get round to the left! shame we couldn't see the rear of the building. Anyhow I hung out with some of the local birds which were nice to look at (you will see what I mean when you get there!) Valet parking is free - take advantage and enjoy a different kind of hotel experience. Don't forget the Wine Cellar bar!

Fantastic building and atmosphere but is not what it was. Lovely room, bathroom ok, bit small and the facilities, toiletries, teas etc a bit meagre for £230 a night. Dinner was very good, food perfect but alas our desserts hadn't arrived twenty minutes after ordering and when we asked, the staff apologised and said they would be with us in a minute or two. Ten minutes later still no sign so as we had a post dinner meeting we had to leave without them even though paid for as part of our package. Pillows were cheap, thin polyester filled, lump and very uncomfortable, no choice with them. Lighting in room was either so dim could hardly see or full on operating theatre brightness. Staff were pretty attentive and concerns were dealt with politely if not effectively. The reception staff were all very officious, didn't seem to grasp the customer service ethic that the hospitality industry relies on. All in all, probably wouldn't stay again, even though fairy tale surroundings. Full of people on "awaydays" and team building trips, not conducive to a romantic break for two.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not overlooking the bins

Thank you for your review. I was glad to read that you enjoyed dinner and the service but of course disappointed that you found some aspects not to your liking. We do work very hard to maintain high levels of customer service at all times and I will be sure to share your feedback with the team and affect improvements where possible. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the not too distant future.
