I have just returned from a one night stay as part of the New You package the castle is currently offering. The package itself is excellent value and I would recommend it. The drive up to the hotel through the woods really sets the scene for the fairy tale castle that sits at the top of the hill. The castle itself has been very sympathetically renovated with lots of its charm and character retained.
We were impressed with our room... We weren't sure what to expect as it was a standard room as part of a package but we were very pleasantly surprised, it was spacious and even had a fireplace! It was spotlessly clean with lovely white fluffy towels and a big, comfortable bed. The only downside was that toiletries were limited with no cotton wool, face cloths or moisturiser. The room was quiet and we had nice view of the woods.
The Spa was lovely too with very friendly staff and good treatments.
Although a 3 course set menu in the 1851 restaurant was included in the package (which looked delicious), I was taken a little unwell and we decided to eat from the evening brasserie menu in our room. The food was very enjoyable.
Breakfast was in the 1851 Restaurant, it is in a lovely setting with nice views over the courtyard. There is a very varied menu, ranging from Full English to smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, together with a contintental buffet.
All staff at the hotel were very helpful and friendly and the atmosphere was lovely.
I'm a bit disappointed that we didn't have chance to take advantage of all the hotel had to offer and we would like to return for another stay to eat in the restaurant, have a tour of the castle and a walk in the grounds.
I would definitely recommend the castle as a special and unique place to stay.

Wow. Truly gorgeous. 100% clean. Meandering Victorian mock medieval castle. Great interior design. Wonderful grounds. Very very special
Lovely room 402 with views. Hot water. Mean on soap and products . Comfortable bed. Wardrobe which lit up when you opened it. Fab furnishings.
We got a great deal of £125 for two including dinner and breakfast. but it was New Years Day
The staff were two-dimensionally friendly and I wanted to ask them if they were so robotic because they were afraid?
Food was good. Menu was ridiculously pretentious. My starter and pudding were not so great but the main course was spiffing. My hubby could not fault his meal.
Breakfast good buffet.
Chose not to stay there another night as one was enough. No atmosphere.

We stayed for 2 nights at the castle for a wedding 21st Dec.
There is not one thing we could fault with the castle as a hotel or for a wedding venue. It really is a magical place for a wedding. The blessing in the chapel by candlelight after the official ceremony in the caslte was also amazing. On arrival and departure, the service in reception is very efficient especially with the valet parking. Every one of the wedding party were more than impressed with their rooms. The staff who looked after the rooms were also very helpful and efficient. The breakfasts were the best we've ever had in a hotel. The food served throughout the wedding event, from canapes and mince pies at reception drinks to the huge meal served at the official wedding breakfast was first class. It was all piping hot and of excellent quality with the serving staff wearing white gloves and doing an amazing job of getting the food to everyone (around 100 people seated). The toastmaster, James Gibson did a grand job of making sure everything flowed smoothly and professionaly. We all partyed on until midnight and then moved down to the cellar bar where again, candlelit, had a lovely atmosphere. We cannot agree with any of the negative comments in some of the previous reveiws. Our opinion is 10/10 for everything. Congratulations to all at Peckforton who made it a very special day and a wedding to remember for a very special couple!

We booked through late rooms and got D,B+B for £125.00. We ate in the brasserie on arrival which was a lovely atmosphere, food was nice but quite expensive for what you get i had a beef sandwich and it just came on normal bread with packet crisps( though advertised vegetable crisps) but was nice. My partner had the burger and enjoyed. We ate in the 1851 restaurant at night and chose off the menu we had included in our price, it was brilliant and the staff and service was very good. We also had breakfast there in the morning and even though we came down at last minute there was plenty to choose from.
The grounds are amazing and very spectacular for a hotel, the bedroom is very clean and bed very comfy, only niggle about the room was the amount of cobwebs- your bound to get them in this type of building but as you looked up above bed there were alot by the beam.It was also bit noisy with people walking past early in the morning and could hear hoover early on which was annoying, we stayed on a quiet night so can imagine would be noisy when busy.
Overall really nice for a night away i don't think i would pay any more than the offer that was on but good value for money.

My husband and I stayed at the castle with friends for the New Year celebrations, when reading some of the comments on here I was a bit apprehensive about what to expect. After looking forward to this evening since September we arrived on the 31st and we all couldn't have been more impressed. The drive through the woods is lovely and first sight of the castle was breathtaking. We had a room in the tower 604 and the spiral stone steps up there were all part of the magic, our room was warm cosy and befitting of a princess, which is how I felt about the whole place. Staff were helpful and friendly (especially the man who showed us round with a warm smile and enthusiasm for the beautiful place he worked in, I only apologise that I can't remember his name!) everywhere in the castle was stunning, from the furniture to the many large dressed Christmas trees, food was delicious and drinks were not too expensive.
With the birds outside the front entrance, the long walks nearby and the great photo opportunities everywhere there were only two downsides, 1 - that I had to leave and 2 - I am already married, as this would be the wedding venue of my dreams!!

Room Tip: The tower was quiet and cool in a very warm and cosy old building. It's a castle who doesn't...

Following an excellent time New Year last year, we booked to spend New Year 2012-13 at the Castle as the experience we had there was second to none. This year was a disappointment in many ways. The room we had was lovely and some elements were stunning other aspects were far less satisfactory. The bath was a very standard bath, which does not feature in any of the pictures on the website, no bathrobes in the room. We were told that the previous year we must have been given and upgrade, but at no point when I booked for this year were we asked if we would like an upgrade and as we were unaware that we would not given the same standard of room were unhappy with the room we were allocated. Towels were threadbare, there was a large stain and when I say large, I mean very large, on the bedcover, the quilt cover had evidently been washed with some tissues or similar it, which had stuck to a large portion of the quilt cover and was still put onto the bed. These issues were raised with staff and we received a discount and while I accepted this, it is does not take away from the disappointment that was felt. When you pay £300 for one night I do not think it is unreasonable to expect and high standard.
The Castle website states New Years eve 2012 celebration cost £279, yet they charged £299 I am not sure how there were able to get away with this but when raised they did not appear to be interested in this issue. The itinery for the nights (2010-13) entertainment stated drinks would be in the wine cellar, the previous year this was used and created an amazing atmosphere, this year they failed to deliver what was promised and everyone had to wait in the long gallery resulting in many people having to stand as there was not sufficiant seating. No explanation was given as to when they failed to stick to their own itinery.
Although I have complaints I will also compliment the hotel on the staff and their professional attitude and hard work. The Castle is a stunning venue, the breakfast was enjoyable and the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming.
I had no complaints at all about the previous year and return on the basis of the excellent standard of the hotel, after our recent experience we will not be returning nor would I recommend the hotel.
