“Very good indeed but breakfast no no.”

Lovely hotel in a lovely small town that's a clearly an area of affluence. Stayed here a few times and room this time was in the stable block upstairs . Very cosy with all creature comforts but very hot with quilt that must have been 15 tog and be aware of the church next door that chimes all night on the quarter ,why does a church have to ring its bells at 3.15am defies me . Excellent beer and very good food including fantastic fish and chips. Breakfast was very disappointing , for some bizarre reason the chef thought it very artistic to pile the bacon ,sausage ,black pudding, beans, bacon in a arty farty pile then pour the scrambled egg all over the top ! Dreadful , good ingredients care for themselves and the great British breakfast is not some trendy gastro meal . If you go there and I do recommend the Swan ask for the breakfast served simply please .

I have many elderley reletives in the Tarporley area and sadley on their demise I use the Swan for the wake. They put on a great spread and are very atentive. They provide a function room depending on the size of the party.

We stayed at the Swan with a group of friends. It was the perfect night before a big wedding nearby and we spent the evening drinking wine and eating lovely food from the extensive menu. We had mussels Provençal, belly pork, baked camembert, burgers and more... all of which looked and tasted great. It was a busy Friday evening with locals and guests of all ages but this didn't detract from a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. We stayed in one of the rooms away from the main building and I can't say that we had any complaints at all. The bed was so comfortable and the bathroom was huge which is not usual. We did comment on the brightness of the green fire exit light above the door but I can't say that it affected our sleep in any way. Breakfast was lovely, the staff couldn't have been more accommodating and the young girls serving us were polite and attentive. A lovely hotel in a beautiful town, I would definitely go back.

Stayed here on a trip north, and it looked very welcoming from the website, and when we spoke to staff on the phone they were charming and helpful. The greeting was warm and we looked forward to the evening. Whilst we were there the hotel was busy with locals and guests, I liked this. The food was pleasant and it would be churlish to find fault with an acceptable meal, but we were both left feeling that the detail was lacking, and for the price the presentation should have been better. One major complaint was the green emergency exit light above the door in the bedroom, which was on all night and we could not turn off! It made the room at night like daylight. We did mention this and were advised it would be dealt with.I expect a bit more for the price.

Room Tip: We had a room in the block overlooking the car park and it was quiet.

Nice meal at The Swan - I had chicken, ham and leek pie and my partner opted for roasted belly pork with smoked bacon mash. Both meals were generous portions - piping hot and served quickly. Very tasty food in a lovely pub in a very nice village.

My wife and I recently cycled from Lands End to John o'Groats, taking in many of the most beautiful parts of our Hallowed Isle. Part of the adventure was carrying all of our little necessities on the bikes and camping on our way. Dear reader, you may take it as read that at some stage one comes to require at least some of the home comforts...
We reached Tarporley fairly late in the day without an idea where we would be laying our weary heads and asked directions in a local shop to a camp-site, to be given a shrug by a young man who neither knew nor cared about whether we found somewhere to stay or not. This was when a delightful lady tapped me on the shoulder and suggested that she might be able to help: the help was the offer of the internet to look up the local "field with a toilet if we were lucky". In a blinding flash of inspiration, I said that: no, we will stay in a hotel for the night. "upper or lower end of the market?" In a mad moment, I said "In for a penny,... the best in the area". Bless her cotton socks, the good lady sent us to the Swan.
Surprisingly, when I walked in, somewhat grubby from a day in the saddle, in my lycra, not an eye was batted. We were invited in and shown a delightful room, our bikes were taken and locked up in the boiler room and we retired for a hot shower, which was followed by a soak in a bath - well, it was quite necessary! When we came down stairs the manager asked a few questions about our trip, followed by the question "How do you handle washing your clothes en-route?" When I told him that this indeed caused us a problem, he sent someone to our room to collect our belongings, which were returned the next morning in far better state than had been in evidence for many days.
We then went into the bar prior to eating and found delightful staff and customers who were immediately welcoming in the best English pub fashion. Our evening meal was first rate, the bed was comfortable, staff without exception were top quality and genuinely friendly.
In order that this report is taken seriously I feel that there should be a 'pity about the ...' but there wasn't.
This visit has left a lasting - and very special - memory in a long and equally memorable trip.
We hope that everyone who follows us to The Swan receives the same treatment.
And I've found their web address: http://www.theswantarporley.co.uk/

Room Tip: The street side of the hotel was quieter, but the best rooms face the street. We had one of these an...

I have stayed overnight at the Swan many times recently due to working in the area. The staff are always really helpful and the rooms particularly those in the Coachhouse are of a high standard. The beds & pillows are extremely comfortable and ensure a good nights rest. Tarporley itself is a lovely village and there is a direct bus into Chester. Breakfast is pleasant with a good choice.

Overall I would definitely recommend a stay at the Swan.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The 16th century Swan has been welcoming guests through its doors for over 400 years, and was once a convenient resting place for those travelling the 200 miles from London to Chester. Today, our comfortable rooms and welcoming bar and dining areas mean that The Swan continues to be a haven for visitors from far and wide. A regular winner of the Best Kept Village award, Tarporley appears in the Domesday Book of 1086. Back then, Tarporley was home to just eight households, but today is one of the largest villages in the heart of the Cheshire countryside, with antique, curio, craft and fashion shops lining its streets. Some of The Swan’s most historic features are located in its Hunt Room, home to the Tarporley Hunt Club. Founded in 1762, it is the oldest in England. The club historically met twice annually at The Swan, with each meeting lasting seven days and the hunting taking place largely within the nearby Delamere Forest. In the founding set of rules, members were required to drink “three collar bumpers” after both dinner and supper, and, in the event of marriage, to present each club member with a pair of buckskin breeches. The Tarporley Hunt Club still meet once a year today, a quarter of a millennium after Obidiah Lane went hare coarsing with his chums and decided, after much merriment at the Swan, this should happen every year; “We shall meet for the purposes of general conviviality” he declared! ... more   less
